I will see if I can get the screen caps of my setup as it is very similar to yours except that I use ForTheRecord plugin. It might be a good idea to take that up in a different thread than clutter this one with information that may not be completely relevant to this thread.

Give me a day or two for the screen caps.
Dear Skoka123, any update on the above?
one more question. do i need to install MCE replacement plugin too with IR server suite?
is it possible to have step by step instructions on installing IR server suite and make it work like i asked in my previous mail? IR server suite documentation is bit confusing with no steps to install and configure (at least up to so far i have checked).

these forums are of great help so far and i hope everyone will keep this good work going on...

many thanks guys
In general nothing more than IRSS should be needed to get a remote working with IRSS. If there are exceptions we should collect them and list them. First collecting them here and adding them to the first post. Sooner or later we should collect all infos and setup guides in the wiki.

About your MCE remote:
It should be enough to install IRSS. You don't need any replacement plugins, or replacement drivers or anything else.
For the selection wether to use Server or Service, please select InputService when using an MCE remote.

After installation is done: You can (maybe you should) disable Windows Media Center services in "InputServiceConfiguation" search the for MCE remote and press configure. there you can disable them.

@all the others:
Once you got your remote working and setting up, it would be cool if you could make a step by step manual. For the start it would already help if you only write how your installation was done, what you other things you installed for it and which options you chose in IRSS applications.

Adding screens to those things would be even better.

So new users are able to set up IRSS with less problem, and we all will benefit from it.

:D for your help :)
Hi chefkoch

thanks for the advice. I'll try to create a step-by-step guide to install IRSS and post it, probably with the screen shots so it can be useful for others and also if some thing i am doing wrong, you guys can point it out to me.

you guys are great .... keep this good work rolling.

Hey installed the latest version and I think it might have really done some odd stuff. My mediaportal.config file in the main MP directory really went screwie.. Became corrupt and had to replace it with a backup.. Any idea... Thanks

Few questions:
1. Is it GPL/GNU licensed and open source?

2. Do you have interface to the IR learn commands so I can write an alternative IR blaster setup (even from within the Media Portal)?

3. A bug (?): If I disable the standard MCE remote default configuration, I can't enable it through Custom HID.
See:
http://mediacenterguides.com/sites/default/files/IRCodes_ReportMappingTable_InputINF.pdf
in this case, it is used together with AutoHotKey.

4. A Bug: To learn IR you have to put the IR close to the receiver not like in VMC (Vista media center) where you could do it from distance of 1-3 meter!

There is a thread on TheGreenButton forums for making the MCE remote into a Universal Remote. I suggest you read that.

Thanks for your reply!

But what I want to do is to have control over an IR transmitter through the Serial Port within MP GUI not via remote control, is this possible via IRSS? This because I'm using a Touch Screen and want to turn on/of receivers and projectors and such.

I know nothing abou tMP, if you can add custom commands/custm programs then IRSS will do the other bit that you want.

A simple example - I have a "resume" macro in IRSS. Turns the TV on, turns the amp on, sets the source and volume, etc. When the PC wakes up from a user request, I call a a batch file that has:

"C:\Program Files\IR Server Suite\Translator\Translator.exe" -MACRO "Resume"

IRSS also has some events that I could use, but the resume event is called whenever the PC wakes, not just when I wake it up.

Hey, that sounds really good! :)
So IRSS is not only for MP? I thought it was a plugin for MP... But yes i can add custom commands to run a batch file within MP so thats no problem. I guess you can "learn" IR commands within IRSS with an receiver also?
What IR transmitter/receiver do you use? Have you built your own?

It really sounds as it will fit my needs, will try to build my own transmitter/receiver then install IRSS and then try it out!

    Hi Raufiq,

I have not forgotten. I have already taken the screenshots. I just need to find some time to put it in a word document and add some meaningful text. I hope to get it done later today.

    I don't use MP, just [quietvoice]MCE, VMC and 7MC[/quietvoice].

Yes, you can learn IR commands - I use the Microsoft MCE "Transceiver". Actually, I've used the original curvy MCE remote and the white Vista Remote. Vista remote results in different button press codes, but give more functions because it has different "modes", but not all the Vista Remote models come with the IR basters... so be careful if you decide to go that route.

There's also a file tool, that allows you to convert different formats - for example my TV remote only has a "toggle" power button, but I found a discrete "Power Off" command and converted it with the file tool. Still to find a discrete "Power On", but as the TV is always off before I use the "Toggle Power" IR blast, it works fine.

Serial port control is easier in IRSS than in any of the others I've tried.

It's a good bit of kit, for sure.

    :D for writing the guide.
I converted it to the wiki.
IRServerSuite/SetTopBox blasting in MediaPortal - MediaPortal Manual Documentation
If you make any changes/additions would be cool if you could make them there.

It also would be great if we could add guides direct to the wiki in future. So other users will find it easier.

    regards

Never really added anything to a wiki. Any additions and modifications in future will be done on the wiki.
