Is MP region free? (2 Viewers)

Hi

I'm thinking about building a HTPC using Mediaportal. I'd just like to ask, will DVDs be played region free using the internal DVD player, or will I still have to flash the drive and install DVD Region Killer?

MP itself is not region free.
Normally a DVD decoder or DVD-drive is region free.
There are region-free DVD codecs available.
When you use one of those, MP will happily play any DVD
An example is AnyDVD (its commercial, but there is a free trial version)

Free DVD Region Free Utility

I personally use a small app called DVD43 (For Free).

It sits in the toolbar area and automatically removes region protection and other restrictions when it detects a DVD from a region that doesn't match that of your DVD unit.

The only minor issue I have ever detected was when installing games from DVD ROM's - the game installer didn't seem to recognise when I had swapped discs, unless I temporarily shut down DVD43. But then, how often is this going to happen?
