well, in my opinion the "interface" is not really bad. for me (and most others?) it should be enough and to navigate through cover art (album sort, big icons etc.) looks quite cool enough, or not? to be a little bit more serious than funny-colored-stunning-all-animated-clickable is the better way - at least for me.
what i mean is - let's imagine the "playing now" window - that the cd cover (the picture from folder.jpg p.e.) is dynamic and swaps with pictures from allmusic. below is a scrollable smoothy textbox with the content coming from allmusic, p.e. the band history.
i had a look at allmusic before lunch. it seems that they dont have an api to get information, so it would be hard to parse the whole html code and to update the parser each time they change the code...
Just realized that this is just a "brainstorming" thread without any concept or concrete wishes or background knowledge. It's nice to see every sort of input here - maybe someone puts this together in a specification usable for programming.
Regarding gracenote: you need to license their API. In addition you aren't allowed to use ANY other API (e.g. AMG, freedb, etc) if you are a customer of them.
