Short summary:
I had the vfd up and running in v 0.1.3

Then I reinstalled my entire system and went for 0.2.0.0 (currently RC2). It havent worked since.

Try RC1 first to set it up.. I did..

Hardware:
The VFD is up and running if I choose any other mode than "plug-in mode" it works, but of course then it will only show uninteresting iMon stuff like CPU clock. Check.

Yeah all other stuff sucks.. I know :D

I switch the iMon driver to "plug-in mode", and the display says "plugin-mode". Then I do as said on page 24 or something, about installing empty, dummy pport dll and sys files in system32 and system32/drivers. Then I go to MPsetup, enable the ExternalDisplay plugin, click "configure" and instantly get an error message and nothing happens.

Then I try removing those files and the same happens.

I didnt install the dummy files but a real setup for p.ports etc..

Then I try copy&paste of the setup I know worked under 0.1.3.0, and then I get a different error message when clicking "configure", but still no VFD picture.

I think there is a difference in xml between those versions....

Do you know if the externaldisplay.xml fileformat changed from 0.1.3 to 0.2.0.0? Can we do a "hands-up" in here to find out if the problem only exists for USB-displays?

regards
Knut Inge

PM me your e-mail or msn so we can "live" discuss the situation... I can also send you the real p.port files/program and my xml files if you would...

Hope to get a fellow MP and Silverstone owner a succesfull setup! :)

Another problem

When my system goes to hibernate the LCD turns black, when powering it up again the LCD remains black :( meaning I have to exit MP and start it again... Think MP lost connection to the LCD. Is there a workaround or patch?

Nice to hear if finally works, mfo

About the hibernation problem. I have built in support for hibernation but for some reason it still doesn't work. I have a HD44780 display that doesn't work either after resuming from hibernation.

Still have to work on that one...

Joe

Joe,

Thanks for the LCD plugin but I have the same problem... Ever finished working on that one?

It works! Thanks for your patience. It seems that the actual pport driver has to be installed both during setup and normal use. And only 0.2.0.0RC1 allows running setup without crashing.

1. I installed 0.2.0.0RC1 fresh on my bedroom computer along with the port95nt.exe

2. Then, finally, I was allowed to enter setup and enter the parameters of the iMon usb VFD.

3. Then I copyed the ExternalDisplay.xml file in the root media portal install folder.

4. I placed this xml file in the corresponding root media portal install folder of my living-room pc, enabled the ExternalDisplay plugin in setup (but didnt touch setup), put the iMon driver into "plugin-mode" and voila!

It seems that the following info is wrong, or at least not applicable to my system and MP version (?)
"..Chris, I think I already mentionned it in this thread. You can fool my plugin to think port95 is installed by creating 2 empty files.
The easiest way to do this is, is by executing the following statements on a command prompt:
copy nul %systemroot%\system32\dlportio.dll
copy nul %systemroot%\system32\drivers\dlportio.sys .."

best regards

It is cleared after MP exit. That is a fixed bug since my last working install =)

How many lines of code is involved in this plugin? Is it separated into a functional and a hardware-specific layer? Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to finally contribute from my side...

I really don't know. If I had the knowledge I tried fixing the hibernation/standby bug myself but I am not able.

Are you willing to give it a try?

I am leaving until the 28th. I may look into it after that. I have some minor functionality ideas. Such as when scrolling through files, Id rather show two lines of files temporarily,
-----
Song title N-1
Song title N
-------

then return to the current view after a while:
-----
My music
Song title
------

Also, I`d like a graphic view of song/movie progress bar, even if it is ASCII-based. Today mp3 progression would look like :

-----

0.39/3.55
-----

I`d like it to be:

----------
[=========| ]
66% completed, 3:55 total
----------

Or something similar

regards
Knut

One thing I am missing is:

- Artist/Title (in case of unknow CD "Track ##")
- Song time
