Hi,

I moved my working MP (0.2.2.0) system to a Ahanix D.Vine 6 case with a HD44780 2X16 VFD display working off of LPT1 and I cannot get to work with MP. I tested it using LCDSmartie and it seems to work ok, but MP does not do anything. I configured the external display plugin as per the wiki documentation but still nothing. I is there any config file or something like that, that I should be editing??? Or is there a driver that I need to install?

Thanks!

I've got a iMON VFD also... no problem when going to hibernate here.
Using 0.2.2.0 plus latest SVN.

Perhaps setting it to the other LCD driver in the externaldisplay config will help you out? I'm using the SoundGraph iMON driver v1.0.

Hi BoelShit,

that's the same driver I'm using... can you post your log file, so I can compare it to mine?

How long does it take for your computer to go to hibernation? I'm starting to suspect that mine goes too fast, so that the External Display plugin doesn't "have time" to switch off the display.... when I shutdown, the display also gets off fairly late.

Thanks

There has been made a change (after the release of 0.2.2) in the way the plugin handles the hibernating event notification. So please test with the latest SVN version to check whether your display is cleared when hibernating...

What driver are you using? The plugin has 2 HD44780 drivers. One is from LCDHype, the other one I wrote myself.
Also check the extra configuration button when using the LCDHype driver. There you can indicate what wiring your display is using.

If this doesn't help, please post (or email) your log file. It should mention what could be wrong...

    Hi Joe,

just tested with MediaPortal-svn--01-04-2007--20-02-Rev12518.exe. Unfortunately, still no clear display when hibernating. I attach my mediaportal.log, maybe it's helpful. (hibernation started at 2007-01-04 21:12:17.695918)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your support,

I looked at your log file and I found out the plugin doesn't even seem to notice that the system hibernates and wakes up again. I don't know why, but I think it has something to do with the way PowerScheduler puts the system in hibernation.

What happens if you hibernate the system yourself? Does the display clear then?

    Hi Joe,

thanks for looking into that. Yes indeed, if I select "Hibernation" from the main menu, the display is cleared, see post #775. I've also put a log file in#775 where I sent the system to hibernation manually, maybe this will confirm your thoughts. (sorry cannot produce another log right now because MP is recording ;-) )

If it turns out that Power Scheduler is be the true cause for this, I'm not sure how to adress this correctly to the right people?

    Cheers

    Hi JoeDalton,

I found a major problem with ExternalDisplay plugin which I solved yesterday evening (3 lines of code). The problem is with the way the ExternalDisplay.xml is located. You have to use the Config.GetFile() method to retrieve the path of the file because the working path can be modified by 3rd party (E.G. Visualizations) and then the ExternalDisplay.xml is created/read on some weird place on your HDD :D

I will post my code here this evening or tomorrow.

    Hi guys,

I have an Origen AE X11 HTPC chasis with a VFD display. I'm using mediaportal (what else , and enabled/set the externaldisplay plugin. Everything shows normally on the VFD screen, but the contrast/brightness changes (very low, barely readable) whenever I start mediaportal. To come back to my original brightness setting, the only option is to restart the usbtray irtrans server. Strangely enough, if I use the irtrans guiclient application and select diagnosis the brightness shows unaffected and set to it's maximum value, though everything is very dim...

    Anybody, any ideas ?

    Cheers,
    Andy
