Well i have still problems with the display when my pc resumes from hibernation. Can anyone plz help?

Is there a property that says "recording" when a TV card is recording?

I'd like to add a little "*" at the top right corner of EVERY screen if a recording is in progress.


How do I do this?

Since I'm currently reworking my ExternalDisplay.xml I searched for this and AFAIK at the moment it is not possible. The "Rec" icon you can see when you are recording something on the TV (icon shown in the TV osd and on the main TV window) is displayed using some hardcoded internal ID's (showing / hiding the control with Id 39).

Please give us more informations, what is your LCD Model and the Motherboard you are using.

You say it doesn't light up ? What do you mean ? Backlight stay dark or there are no chars written ? etc.

I suspect it's more a motherboard prob.

Hi guys,

I have an Origen AE X11 HTPC chasis with a VFD display. I'm using mediaportal (what else , and enabled/set the externaldisplay plugin. Everything shows normally on the VFD screen, but the contrast/brightness changes (very low, barely readable) whenever I start mediaportal. To come back to my original brightness setting, the only option is to restart the usbtray irtrans server. Strangely enough, if I use the irtrans guiclient application and select diagnosis the brightness shows unaffected and set to it's maximum value, though everything is very dim...

Anybody, any ideas ?

same here, with IRTrans display selected, vfd is very dimmed (to the lowest value i suppose) as soon as mp outputs "MediaPortal <cr> %time%" and becomes unreadable from 1mt onwards.

I have a Asus P4P800SE Mainboard. The Display is a Alphacool 240x128 GLCD blue/white. The display show nothing, no chars and it wont start the backlight, as if the plugin is turned off.

VFD with a COM port driver/emulation.

Hello everybody,

Well, here it goes. I got a VFD display from someone that was once used on an electronic scale. It is connected via USB and I found a COM port driver for it, that I installed and is working fine, meaning it simulates a new COM port.
If I now copy something to this COM port (e.g. command line, dir > \COMx) it displays everything that is copied nicely on the display.

Is this something that I can use with MP through the LCD plugin or in any other way? Would be great, as it is a very nice and big display!

Hi Guys,

I found a optrex 16x2 char lcd which has hd44780a00 controller along with another sanyo LC7930 chip on it. I wired it according the first diagram on LCDsmartie and hooked up to my htpc. when media portal starts with the external display plugin and joes driver or hd44780 compatible driver I see first line with all #### chars and nothing else.

any suggestions ?

I have configured parallel port to EPP from bios also and tried slow speed from plugin config like 100.

the problem was contrast for pin#3. it needs to be 0V or ground.

if some one has same lcd as mine, hookup pin #16 and #3 to ground. this eliminates the need for ponentiometer in this diagram so it is even simpler circuit.

Does it work when you restart MediaPortal? You can automically restart MediaPortal after wake up with a tool called "startonwake". Just search the forums for it.

I have this problem too. first line is all ###### when resume from standby.

I don't want to reboot the pc everytime just to fix the diaplay. can we have the plugin restarted everytime the pc resumes from standby ?
