Sometimes a channel will suddenly freeze while watching live TV. Using a skip back will resume play, & will play properly through the spot where playback stopped. This seems to imply that the timeshifting at the server end is uninterrupted, & the lockups are client side.

I tried running the client in windowed mode, & kept relaunching the client, picking the same channel each time. I cleared all client logs before each relaunch. It finally exhibited the problem, & logs are attached. MP was manually closed down (clicking the X in the top right) right after the TV froze, without attempting to restart it.

    Hi,

As I wrote earlyer in the SVN forum,
I have same expience as x4mer.
Logs postet in the svn forum.

I have also made a test where I stream to VLC, this is running without any problems at all.
Therefor my conclusion also is, the bug is on client side.

If it can be any help, then a develuper can get remote access to my HTPC,
    Just send a PM.

Does both of you experience this when the client and the server is on the same machine? Because I have my laptop running as second client, and I have only seen this happen on my dedicated HTPC. But there I get the problem every second day if I let the HTPC run all night with TV on. Then, when I wake up, sometimes the TV is frozen.

My guess would be that only non-RTSP streaming is affected...
Just speculating about possible setups :)

we know about an issue in multiseat, the internal live555-timeout (45 seconds) kicks in at serverside and ends the stream (=client freeze). The problem atm is to find the reason why the keep-alive isnt renewed sometimes on a new stream.

same problem here - logs already posted in two SVN threads. I also use ONLY multiseat - no singleseat machine to test.

    @high
is there already some debugging code or so available to test this or produce more verbose logs?

I don't use the client component on the server, so problems have only been seen multi-seat.

Tonight, I enabled rtsp=no, on the client upstairs. This seemed to have gotten rid of the freezing, but now instead of freezing the feed starts stuttering after watching for a short time. There's no way for me to determine if the start of the stuttering would have coincided with a freeze had rtsp been still set to yes.

Attached are client logs with rtsp=no set.

    High,

I take it when the 45sec timeout occurs, only the stream is stopped, but the timeshift continues?

I assume it must, as a skip -15sec, continues right through the freeze point on second pass.

EDIT: Actually, even if only the stream goes down server side, It shouldn't be able to resume seamlessly client side by just skip -15sec. The client would only have access to what was in the client buffer at the time the stream went down.

    Hello,
the same behavior happens to me too, but I am using MP 1.02 singleseat, so it seems to me the problem is not related only to MP 1.1 Beta.
In fact there are several "subproblems" with live TV by my system:
    1) live TV freezes randomly (mpeg-2 streams very rarely, mpeg-4 streams nearly allways), only switching TV off and on again helps (it is very annoying, because timeshift is lost and according Marty's law it usually happens when my wife wants to watch some interesting show and TV was paused before ;-) )
    2) live TV starts to stutter, skipping within stream helps for some time (mpeg-4 streams allways, using Power DVD 9 h264 codec. Core AVC 1.9.5 codec eliminates the problem).
I am not sure, but it seems to me the problems happen only, when watching DVB-T streams (I can't confirm it for 100%, because I am watching DVB-S streams seldom and my satelite card is able to receive only one mpeg-4 DVB-S stream - Einsfestival HD).
I posted logs to other threads already, but if required I can collect new and post it here too...

this sounds completely different to the problem we discuss here.
1.) freezing cann always be solved by changing channel or do a -15s skip backwards
2.) happens only since MP 1.1 beta
