I can't say for sure, but it would seem that this is a standard MCE remote. If so, it should work out-of-the-box.

Well, i'm not sure either...
the thing that makes me wonder is that the way the sound system is attached to the Htpc...by USB.

I recomend buying a Windows Media Remote for Mediaportal, I own a Windows media compatible remote so i just use the remote from Logitech just to turn the sound on and other sound stuff, so i never tried to make it work with MP, but on other forums i noticed that there has been some issues...good luck!
But the sound from Logitech is fine...

Hi. I recently upgraded my home cinema AVR which also meant changed from sending audio from my HTPC as 5.1 using optical to 7.1...
I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC.
TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.
