What program can I use to check for dropped packages etc?
Rather than doing that, I concur with Jay_UK - install the MP client on the server and see if you get stutter viewing TV on the server.

TV stutter was never the issue. So why should I do that? It makes more sense to me to test a movie over the network on the server side.

You're right - my mistake. What I meant was install MediaPortal client on the server so that you can test playback of the videos on the server.

    Hi,

I tried playing a file (located on server) on my htpc with MPC-HC. Same stutter issue.
Played the same file (located on HTPC), no stutter issues.

I ordered myself a new NIC, the INTEL PRO 1000CT PCI-E Adapter Desktop GbE Bulk. See if that makes any difference.

    Hi!

how are power-saving settings on the server (and the client)?
I hade problems with default mode when playing recordings from server, timeshifting was never a problem.

    just a thought...

I definitely don't think CODECs are the problem here, but since you seem to have tried lots and lots of solutions and are struggling I thought I would post this (nothing to loose trying it).

My father has recently been having problems with stuttering HD TV on his single seat setup on windows 7 (fresh install). It was only happening with HD .TS file, but no other files (e.g any TV or TV recordings in H.264). He tried upgrading his GPU from NVIDIA 9400 to ATI 5450 and the problem remained.

He tried the all the main CODEC options (PDVD 11, PDVD 10, FFDShow DXVA, M$ DTV; but none of them worked. In the end, the only CODEC that fixed it was PDVD 8!

    I have no idea why!

Mmmm, PDVD8 update 2217 also works nicely. ;)

CypherMK: maybe you could provide us with a sample to see if we can reproduce it?

OK, I tried playing a movie with my new intel NIC and it played just fine. I hope it stays that way!

I did another test run with the movie Avatar. 10000 frame drops in 25 minutes.

I changed the speed of the NIC on the server to 1gbps full duplex. Hope this makes a difference.
