if I add one movie one day, when will it be added to the library?
If you activate the share watcher, new entries will be added after about 5 min. Note that "new" means new files. So restoring or saving something under the same filename will not be interpreted as new, regardless of the file date having changed. In such cases you need to move the file out of the share, rescan, and move it back.

    it seems to take forever
A rescan of a completely recognized collection will not take longer than a few minutes. Note that a complete scan consists of two (!) passes. So rescanning may take some time if this is the second time but much shorter thereafter.

The share watcher mechanics depend on Windows. We noticed that it is not always fully reliable and sometimes a manually triggered rescan may be needed for new files to be read in.

I would also prefer to have some kind of mgmt interface to manage the library more like the skips, bad matche
A new function to completely rescan a single media file will be available for MP 2.2. At this moment if media information is not correct, it is necessary to move the data away from the share, manually delete the respective TvDb info in case of wrong series data such as summaries in the wrong language, rescan to delete the info and then move the file(s) back into the share.

    However,
    • I never get wrong movie info, provided the movie file is correctly named.
    • I - very rarely - get partly incorrect series info (wrong language) because of TvDb returning wrong info to MP2.
    • I never get wrong series recognition, provided the series is named according to TheTvDb series name.
In summary, I don't need anything like "resend to importer" but acknowledge the desire for being able to rescan a particular information that is found to be wrong. That said, a wrong series file name will always provide the same wrong result.

So in my case for instance, I would be best to just remove the shares and re-add them so that MP2 treats them as new? Or is that not enough?

That's a little bit drastic. You better keep the shares but move their contents to another location. Moving on the same drive takes no time.

Note that the related cache information is not deleted, regardless whether you delete/redefine the share or just ove file content away. So data that was once imported wrong will continue to be reimported in the same wrong way unless you delete the cached info on the hard drive (for series xxxxx: subfolder TvDb/xxxxx, where xxxxx is the ID of the series on TheTvDb - you get the concept, right?).

All this should be explained in more detail in the Wiki, but currently there is mostly I only who is occasionally adding content. Yet every user is able to add new content, so if you would like to contribute, you are more than welcome.

    @corvy ,

Since you are now using MP2, you certainly noticed that running your system in Norwegian is still displaying the menu texts in English. In case that you'd like to have Norwegian texts, you could contribute and help us by managing the NO translations. Let me know if you are interested and we wil give you write access to the so-called Transifex system where we manage the translations.

yes I can look into this during Christmas
Excellent. Please use the link Join team at the top of the MP2 Transifex site, select Norwegian and off you go (y)

However, you won't see the official results before the release of MP 2.2. . (But we might give you access to a 2.2 test version to honour your efforts (y))

I don't know what's missing though. I have other things such as Emby accessing the same shares so would rather just reset MP2 than start moving files around. I've given MP2 quite a few goes so far but find myself just always going back to MP1 that I've used for probably over a decade now as it's just much easier to see what's going on. If I only had the 1 client I don't think I would ever move on but I do want to try and switch to MP2 at some point.

    Hi.
One crazy thing is that one movie was 4,2 GB as TS and after MKV Buddy it ended up being 4,9 GB.
The file size has nothing to do with the container (.mkv and .ts are containers like .mpg .avi .wmv or .mp4 or similar) There are only very little differences. And if you muxx the same video into a mkv container it normally is some few bytes smaller than the same video in a .ts container. The huge difference means you've transcoded the video to a higher bitrate. Probably your .ts has a video stream encoded with h265 codec that you've transcoded to h264 with (nearly) the same quality this would be a reason for the size difference. But this only is a guess. To tell more I need the output of mediainfo for both files.

Is there anything like a recommended setting (in adition to defaults) for MKV buddy for 720p/1080p?
The default ones are not too bad as a start. Changing them only is a matter of fine tuning.

on my mediaportal 1 setup I see 820 films whereas on MP2 I only see 812
MP2 is a little more stringent when it comes to file sanity. The importer depends on a proper mediainfo output. If you even don't find your missing movies in the "videos" section then probably those videos are damaged somehow. This did not mean they can not be played but they may have some "glitches" preventing MP2 from importing them. A simple remuxx with mkvtoolnix, tsmuxxer, MKV-Buddy or similar will cure 99,99% of all those "glitches" in a few minutes. 80% to 90% of all the billions of existing video files around the world are not completely error free. Most of them are nevertheless imported without issues. But a few can not properly be imported as they are damaged a bit too much...

Again though, how can I possibly work out what is missing when it's over 800 files?!? Should it not show as an error in the server logs or something?

First have a look at the videos section. Only videos not identified as movies (or series) are shown there. If you find them there you know which ones you need to rename and re-import...
If they are not in the videos section then it is more work. You may have a look into the servers log files in the hidden folder "c:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MP2-Server\Log\". Or you need to walk through your movies list and compare it with your movie folder content. Both is time consuming and you most likely need to repair the missing videos nevertheless.

I think we should add a new feature to send a message to the client or create a separate log if a media item can not be imported because something went wrong. Could be a nice feature request and should not be too hard to implement. So please open a corresponding feature request threat, thanks.
