glenn and chris took the jump I was thinking.

Take the reduced color version and a short cartoon strip could be made where MP lad is fighting off the evil MCEvil (these looks kinda like the Mepo but has a Green button face - if you get my drift - plus they are evil looking). There is a battle going on but at the end MP lad wins and plants the flag claming earth as a place where Media can be free.

I can't stop smiling while going thrue this topic.
The Gremlin and the MPboy are absolutely geneous. It's very difficult to create a powerfull yet simple mascot.
MPboy represents what MP is, to me, the best. He's very likable. It could even be a reason to give MP a try to some people. One of the reasons I installed Linux the first time is because people who chose such a nice mascot must know what they are doing.

A good thing that it can also be a 2d character.

Well of the submissions, we have five (three are of an octopus) unique characters so far:
MP Lad (aka MP Boy) - grassynoel
MP dude (MePo) - grassynoel
Octopus - wewe
MP guy - Harley
Ant - Harley
various sketches - grassynoel
Octopus - ronald+jimmy

It has been interesting the discussions on many of the characters!

I am not asking for a vote or anything like that, just providing a list.

Anyone else with artist talent wanting to submit a character for discussion? How about a friend who can draw? The more the merrier!

These are all great, wow geeks can create! I am thinkning about something more logo-ish. Some kind of symbol, something to where if you saw it you would know. Simple-yet sophisticated. Less is more. If I need to start a thread for a logo/icon rather than the mascot let me know. Great work on the strip and the character, he is perfect

Perhaps it would interesting to hear a little more from all the senior members/MP board. Do they really want a mascot/emblem?
If they want one, then it would be (maybe) interesting to propose a public call for tender.
Advertise the competition with clear pre-requisites & requirements on the main page and through several related mailing-lists.
This invitation to tender could specify:
-a deadline
-the maximum number of submissions / contestant
-some technical limitations (file format, Vectorised 2D vs 3D, etc)
-maybe a small financial reward (in exchange of the intellectual property retrocession)
-who's the jury
-what kind of relevance to the MP project (goals and spirit, culturally neutral, etc)
-some miscellaneous info (e.g. Does the word MediaPortal must appear on the picture? etc)

We may then discuss, in this same thread, the content & rules for such a contest and let artists work in the background (I'd really like to see some works by Forgotten Illustrator and Harley for example ).

PS mine was not a prposal, hardly a concept idea (and in the end 'Cthulhu for mascot!' was not a good idea at all ).

ronald+jimmy i think that is a great idea! Something like this would get people who are on the edge about spending the time to create a fun mascot (or whatever it turns into) would be more willing to do it. The financial reward would be great but i think just knowing that you created the MP mascot would be even more of a reward.

I am all for this and would like to help out in any way i can (unfortunately i am not an artist).
