Using these characters will make Mediaportal more friendly, in my opinion. I know a lof us are married and simply convincing our wives to let us watch TV through a computer was challenge enough. My wife loves the little bluetwo guy and absolutely LOVED these little guys when I showed them to her. Perhaps being a little more friendly isn't the same as being childish, per se. Then again, I can defintely see how these could get annoying and be a little too childish to others. I think that regardless these should be included in at least one skin for those of us who really love them.

Well, I do. I always thought a more comic style skin would be a nice alternative and totally different to all the (great) serious skins.
So I think these should definitely be in a complete skin.

As this is the thread about a possible mp mascot, and I can see great feedback in this thread for the idea with 1,000 views in only 2 days, I will discuss this with the design team and development team. This may take some time as there is a lot of work done on other topics which certainly have a higher priority at the moment.

I think there is a clear distinction to be made between a mascot and a skin.
The Linux penguin does not appear everywhere in Linux, nor does the firefox fox character appear in firefox. They are just emblems.
I imagine the character that is chosen for MP would appear only on the website and perhaps the splash-screen. I see skins as business as usual.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to a general discussion forum instead. 
you are right.
but in my opinion, a skin with/for the maskot character would be a very good idea
(the one you are currently working on)

I never said that this character shouldn’t be made into a skin. Personal I think that it should, because it brings another option for people to select from. As we all have different views/taste on thing and isn’t that what a skin is all about?
This is starting to go off topic and yes I was the one that started the sway. We all need to get back on track and talk about the mascot side of things. I will not comment anymore on skin related issues in this topic.

A mascott for MediaPortal sounds like a great idea
When we have this mascott, it should be available in various sizes
so we can also put it on the website, in the skin, as icon for the .exe
etc etc.
And offcourse it should be free (non-copyrighted)
So i'm curious what you guys come up with and what in the end
the mascott will look like

Hi all,
..i have worked last days a little bit on a mascot.
I think a good mascot would be a Ant , because the Ant´s are teamworker, same as the mediaportalcommunity.
I have had not enough time, so i have do at the moment only the layers without textures.
But if you like it, i can make textures and positions after i came back from vocation.
Here it is, "it" because he has no name at the moment:
for a start.exe symbol we can use only the Head :
