Seriously; How about giving him a more imp-ish look and call him iMP (or just Imp)?

The old BSDs, FreeBSD and even the Darwin project - which are Unix-like OSes - already got their own imp-ish mascot, it won't be wise to do the same. As a side note, the NetBSD project decided to change their imp mascot to something really different partly because of some displeased christian users (this is one version of the story). The mascot should be culturally neutral IMO.

maybe the christians need to brush up their english, imp only has demonic connotations as it was used in conjunction with satan, meaning child or offshoot of satan. Imp itself merely means small child or young shoot. Probably the same idiots who tried to ban the word niggardly.

My mistake. I'm not a native english speaker and I thought that the word "imp" had this first meaning.

It wouldn't take much to change the ear to make them look like a hooded pajama for children (or even like the small teddy-bear-like creatures the Ewoks) I guess if Glenn wanted to, he could change it to satisfy a small minority. To me the extrusions looked like pointed ears, but then we could get into a discussion how Spock looked like Satan (But then... No one I know, or care to know, really knows what The Enemy looks like).

Don't get me wrong, I really like the character horns/ears and such a mascot, as it is, can't 'offend' anyone. However, what I wanted to say is that a mascot like the one in the picture (which is a clearly a small devil, a real one) has had negative feedback from a minority. My first post arose from an error in translation.

Mepo the IMP passed the family vote.

No nasty connotations as far as we are concerned, in fact it cheered us up immensely.

My pleasure. Your comments made me happy too and encourage me to keep going.

    Please, please, p-l-e-a-s-e don't stop!

I hope you stay and become an active (like you aren't already? OK, sarcastic witty mode off now) member. My hopes is that this is just a start for you. I could see a Tim Burton - ish cartoon like theme or even a childen's theme. With your talent the sky is the limit and the only danger would be your burning out with the constant requests (I am guilty of that) for changes or new graphics.

I'm hoping when you finish this skin that it brings out more artists to develop other skins to challenge even more to join MediaPortal. That is what good talent does - it spurs others to improve. You and a few other skin developers have done that!

    Good work!
