Please try to follow the instructions here:

...for the file c:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\database\movingpictures.db3 (instead of VideoDatabaseV5.db3).
[Note: Windows hides ProgramData by default, so you may need to copy and paste the path into the address bar in Windows Explorer to find the file.]
If the process doesn't work, try to recover the file from backup (if you have one)... or if you don't have a backup, you'll have to delete it.

I'm just wondering if it is good idea to install version 1.9 of the MP over the existing 1.8?
Can you advice me please? Will i get any noticeable upgrades?
