    A few quick (?) questions:
    1. Any thoughts about IP TV / TVoIP and the new engine?
    2. In Norway (like in France?) DVB-T will be in MPEG-4 (w/HD-possibilities) - does this affect the new TV-engine at all?

    THANK YOU ALL!

I have "BOXER" here in sweden dvb-t Will it be possible to watch the scrambled channels with the new client-server model? Offcourse with a card in the cam on the server. Because I recently installed web scheduler, jtvlan and vlc. I got it to work ok after a lot of trouble but I discovered that I could only watch channel 1,2,4 here in sweden that are unscramled.

However I'm not sure one can fit both the Windows XP Home-Edition or Professional-Edition (or 2003 Server) operating-system and MediaPortal on just 1GB (or 2GB), even with the virtual-memory page-file disabled in windows, (plus I'm not sure how well Windows and MediaPortal run without a virtual-memory).
Getting XP in 2GB shouldn't be a problem. You could probably get away with less too. Have a look at XPlite (http://www.litepc.com/), it allows you to strip out all the un-needed components of windows, reducing the storage space and memory footprint. If MP starts to complain about lack of paging file, you could always use a RAM disk utility and force the page file into that. You wouldn't want to use the flash memory for swap space as they have a limited number of read/write cycles.

indeed, and i see many ppl reporting issues with MediaPortal running on such selfcreated WindowsXP version.

the team strongly suggests to not use such versions of Windows!

    I all sound really great!

But is the quality actualy any good? - I don't know for sure, but i've "heard" that 'ordinary tv' can be streamed with an acceptable result at aprox 5-10 Mbit, but what about the better/richer DVB?
    - I was also told that you wouldn't even be abel to stream HDTV on a 1Gbit network!

    Am I wrong (hope so!)

As I see it the TV Server is placeshifting on a local network, but only very few would be able to placeshift acros the internet, as most people have too slow upload speed! (my internet connection is 2Mbit/512Kbit)

The tvserver is designed for a local (W)LAN, not for streaming tv over the internet
When you want to stream tv over the internet, the stream would have to be re-encoded in realtime to a lower quality.
Re-encoding will not be present in the first release, but who knows we can always add this later on.

The fact that we stream tv over the lan means that IP TV/TvOIP is already done
    isnt it??

About MPEG-4, yep we are thinking about that.
