ok, an update for anyone that's interested. After a week the Dr HDMI hadn't appeared so I cancelled my order (still waiting for a refund). I then changed over to using optical spdif for audio instead of HDMI and I haven't had a crash since. So I guess that's where I'll leave it for now. Thanks to everyone for your help, it has been appreciated.

Ok but changing to optical spdif is not really a solution or? If i'm knowing it right, you lose compatibility with dts-hd. Badly i'm hearing really good a change from a dts to a dts-hd audio format on my sound system, also you have limitations to 5.1.

For me the crashes are gone with the most of advises from https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/posts/1079976/ . But my sound is now often off / muted if i come from standby (suppose the "no Audio issue" described in the other thread).

word of warning regarding www.3dfury.co.uk where I tried to buy the Dr HDMI from. I cancelled my order 13 days ago and have still not received a refund. All I have received is notification that my order has been cancelled. This company seems to just be a one-man band (David) being operated from his house. BEWARE!

Just to update this for anyone who stumbles across this old thread: Updating to a Haswell Intel NUC and Windows 8.1 has done nothing to solve the crashing problem. In fact the NUC has no optical out so now I must buy a Dr HDMI again!
