Could the Watchdog do this automatically?

I have thinking about the same question lol :)

The option was removed because it's a hack but HomeY post somewhere a script that restart MP on resume, so maybe it's wise to try :)
Can you try with another soft ? (MPC-HC / WMP running something and see if GPU crash) ?
So in final it's buggy drivers/hardware that make something odd on resume.

I thinking of something, if when going to standby, MP goes minimize ? (then no MP window open) and maybe GPU like it :p

Also keep in mind that there was an earlier bin that was working quite nicely.
So what changed? 1.9 --> 1.10 pre and several Seb patch bins[DOUBLEPOST=1416337785][/DOUBLEPOST]
But i think nothing can be done on MP side, except maybe wait that the crash occurs (During delay is resuming like 60 sec or more).
I can set the delay to 60s of course - will try 30 first.

Can you try with 5 sec for 10 times and does the issue occurs quickly ? (so doing short S3/Resume).
In 1.9 -> 1.10 nothing change in this area, only in 1.9 we have some delayed resume message and an issue when MP is not focused and then MP can't receive resumesuspend message and MP stay freezed.

With MePo in tray there is probably no problem, since without the full screen MePo standby and resume occur normally. Yet I can never be entirely sure, there are simply not enough shutdowns/resumes every day to fully rely on this.

I do not believe that this is exactly the same issue. There is absolutely no problem in putting the system to sleep/hibernate or shut it down. I do agree though that the drivers appear to have a problem.

Ok so maybe (but for later) this can help :

It's a hard way but lol.

So first need to know if you can reproduce easily :)
Second try to understand what in MP fuck the GPU driver.
Third, does GPU can crash without MP running
4 (don't know how to spell it lol) with xbmc for ex or something else, does the GPU crash too.

I have see in eventlog, most of the time the GPU crash right after resume and sometimes it crash too but PC is already UP and running :)
So maybe set the delay (30 / 60 secs) can be enough to bypass the crash.

I can also create a bin that minimize MP upon the resume and restore it after a delay ?
