AW: MPDisplay2 - MP Secondary Display

    Hi there,

I get an error-message after some time with MP-Display2.

    I have a dual graphics-card system:

Card #1: ATI HD 4200 (Mainboard internal graphics) --> HDMI --> TV for Mediaportal

Card #2: ATI HD 4550 first --> DVI --> TFT for Windows Desktop
    ATI HD 4550 second --> VGA --> VGA-Touchscreen for MP-Display 2

Now I have set the energy-scheme to turn off the monitor(s) after 5 minutes.
This is to save energy (and to get a "clean" living room) when Mediaportal is not running or paused.

Could this be the reason for the error?

    Have attached logs.
To create the logs I didn't do anything after starting MP.
Only waited until the error appeared and thereafter closed Mediaportal.

Otherwise MP-Display2 is doing what it is supposed to in a very nice manner, especially with my favourite skin PureVisionHD.

    :D for this great plugin!!!

Another question: Is it absolutely necessary to have the checkmark at "Keep Mediaportal always focused"?

I don't like that because I am often doing some things like MP3-tagging, burning DVDs etc. on the windows desktop in parallel to running Mediaportal.

    Kind regards

    Roger

Re: AW: MPDisplay2 - MP Secondary Display

I'm assuming the issue is popping up because of the energy-schema, although I'm not sure. Could you confirm at which time the monitors (especially the MPDisplay2 Monitor) switch off. As an alternative, could you try if the error also happens when the monitors are not switched off by changing the energy-schema?

W.r.t. your other question: It is not absolutely necessary, but it might lead to MediaPortal not accepting keyboard/remote input. I suggest to just try it out with the checkmark removed.

    Best regards,

    GDL

    Hi GDL,

I have just let MP+MP-Display2 run without the energy-scheme and doing absolutely nothing with MP or Windows.
Just letting MP run quietly without any actions.

Again an error-message after some time!

So the energy-scheme is not the cause.

    Have attached new logs.

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Hi Rogerleifert,

Seems to be something with the Label Funktion of MPD2 - but gdl can say more to it. Only thing I've seen is, that you still have the MPTouchv2.dll in your process folder of MediaPortal. You can delete this one, because it's the very old Version of MPD2. :)

    Cheers,
    Richy

    RogerLeifert,

I have had MediaPortal 1.2.0 with MPDisplay2 plugin running (playing music from a playlist) for 9 hrs without a crash, so it seems like it is some interaction or problem in your installation. Could you please try to:
    1. remove the MPDisplay2.dll (as well as the MPTouchv2.dll) from the process folder of MediaPortal
    2. delete the MPDisplay2 tree from the MediaPortal data directory.
    3. reinstall MPDisplay2

And let me know if this solves the problem?

If this does not, could you also try to disable all other plugins you are using and see if the problem still exists?

If the latter option still crashes, I need to prepare a debug dll for you that puts more info in the log files...

    Best regards,

    GDL

    2. delete the MPDisplay2 tree from the MediaPortal data directory.
    3. reinstall MPDisplay2

I 've tried exactly as in your instructions.
It got a little better, which means it takes subjectively slightly longer until I see the error message.

Attached logs are with the following settings:

    - no automatic turn-off of monitors when idle
    - all unnecessary background processes turned off (speedfan, amd power monitor...)
    - MP always focused

Still got the error after ca. 40 min. :-(

If this does not help, could you also try to disable all other plugins you are using and see if the problem still exists?

That I will try tomorrow and further reduce running background processes (touchscreen and IR-receiver...)

    Kind regards

    Roger

:( Still error-message after some time with all plugins disabled except for MPDisplay2.
    Logs attached.

So I think I need your special debug-DLL.

    Kind regards,

    RogerLeifert,

Could you please replace the attached dll in the MediaPortal Process Plugin Directory, and try again. It will either resolve the problem or -hopefully- provide more details in the log file...

    Good luck,

    GDL

    Rogerleifert,

    This is not good!

On other experiment: Could you please open the GlobalSettings.xml in your MPDisplay2 Skin folder (be sure to select the right skin folder), and set the entry "Scroll" in the section "Labels" to "False", and try again?

Eventually we will certainly nail down the cause of the problem!

    Best regards,

    Geert-Jan
