Why not setting the maximum quality of the sound system? Other applications don't have any problem with this setting.

What would you gain by resampling a 44khz file to 96khz?
Just get rid of the mixer and use WASAPI exclusive mode

Believe me. If it would be easy it would have been done.

This sorting stuff in GUI is horrible. We've tried to change it several times and failed.
I personally never need to resort anything, which i have on the GUI. The sorting that i get from the DB is sufficient.

In the config, i will try to detect the number of Speakers attached, defaulting to stereo.
There is a new combo box in the WASAPI section of the music configuration, which allows you to specify the actual number of speakers attached.

Let me know, if that solves your issues.

Hi Helmut!

First a big Thanks for your great work on music part and sorry, that i didn't have found time for testing the last month! Today i have installed last build and have found a possible bug!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start MP -> MyMusic / WASAPI exclusice
2. Start Playback a track 24bit-88kHz
3. While playback start playback of an multichannel audiofile 5.1 channel / 24bit-96kHz ->
4. MP crashed to DT

If you first stop playback of file 1, then playback of file 2 is working fine!

However, I have to experiment:
In the settings of the AMD HD-audio is the default setting stereo. In MePo - stereo. Works fine!
I changed the settings of the AMD HD-audio to output 5.1 audio. In MePo - stereo. Works fine!
I changed the settings of the AMD HD-audio to output 7.1 audio. In MePo - mono! Works fine! Receiver display shows STEREO.
And, finally, in an audio set 4.0 quadro, in MePo 7.1 - Works fine!
Why should there be this setting, "combo box in the WASAPI section of the music configuration"?!

Thanks for testing. Guess you stumbled into one of these timing issues, which are hard to reproduce.
For me it is working, but it seems you had the crash exactly at that point, where i was fixing something in the last days.
Seems more fine tuning is necessary.

I guess this crash is not happening always.

I need to know how many channels are on the WASAPI side, when i am initilasing the device.
If i init it to the max of 8 channels and you have only stereo attached, this can produce some weird result.

So i put in some logic to auto detect the number of output channels. Unfortunately this does not work for all devices, like it happened to you, where zero channels had been detected.
Therefor i have added the combo into config and you should indicate the number of channels on your device.
So if your AMD HD-Audio is a 7.1 device, then select 7.1 in MP Config.

Ok, AMD HD-Audio support 7.1, but the receiver is 5.1, and I still have to install the 7.1 media portals?

As long as you don't play a multi-channel file with 8 channels it shouldn't matter.

If you play a 8 channel file and you have:
5.1 -> down-mixing to 6 channels will happen and it will play ok on your 5.1 setup
7.1 -> no down mixing will hapen and your receiver will get 8 channels and needs to handle that.

Just imagine applications that use media outputs higher than 44KHz.
I think at least the users should be actively informed that the default output rate has to be changed to 44KHz due to compatibility reasons. It can be difficult to find this problem cause on troubleshooting.

In Exclusive Mode I don't hear other sounds than the music output anymore. E. g. the ring tone of FRITZ!Box Manager on incoming phone calls.
