Seriously this time, I'm just finishing things up. I kept making changes and additions that were making me uneasy about releasing it until I had thoroughly tested things. I'm hoping to get it out tonight or tomorrow. Many many changes were made, so we'll see how that goes.

Hey I know it's been a bit quiet as of recent with this plugin, but would some one please be able to have a look at this.. Have designed a rather nice skin for mVids, but I'm not sure if it is the cause of random crashes I have been having while playing music videos.... Have attached my logs... Please if any one could get back to me who knows a little more, would be so appreciated.. Just kinda sad, made this skin and it is not running to well... Thanks

Looking at your logs I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I'm not sure what's causing your problems, but give the new version a shot when I upload it and let me know if it fixes any of your problems. Skin looks nice, by the way.

The Video Background Auto Switcher plugin has caused MP to crash for me too in the past.

Attached is version 0.2. I'd like to get a few people to try it out before I upload it to the repository. There may still be some issues, particularly in the dbManager since I haven't tested it very well.

If you already have a good database then you will need to hit the "Upgrade Database" button and it will re-add all of your videos to the new database in the order they were added previously and keep all playcount/rating information.

This upgrade step is necessary because of the switch to last.fm. There are additional fields that need to be filled now that allmusic didn't provide. Your old database will stay intact just in case anything goes wrong.

Included are skin files for Aeon wide, Blue3 wide, and pilehave's MediaStream. The Blue3 wide skin should work for Monochrome as well, but I'm not positive on that. I will get to the 4x3 and Xface skin files before I actually upload it. Fan art works now but there's no good provider for it that I can scrape so for right now you're on your own with it. The configuration screen will tell you where it goes as well as where your thumbs are.

Please let me know if you have any issues or not so I can get them fixed before uploading to the repository.

Although I’m too much aggrieved that you haven’t switched to scanning folder/file names from adding names to the DB using Last.fm entries.
So, I’m still dependant on the entries being added by Last.fm users or being correct in orthography.

OK, I scanned two large folders:
(1) short music videos (non-VIDEO_TS structure) – more than 300 items,
(2) live concerts and music movies(non-VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_TS) – more than 200 items).

Scanning (1):
A1) in almost 100 cases a “Confirm artist’s name” window popped up (artist is not in Last.fm DB, cases “artist, the”, different spelling, cases “artist 1 & artist 2”, etc), pressing “cancel” is to loose the entry, so I made “CTRL + C” & “CTRL + V” & “retry” 100 times (isn’t it a torture to keep a record in DB if there’s no parsing folder/file names?),
B1) after doing the operation “CTRL + C” & “CTRL + V” & “retry” (see A1) all the items were added to DB,
C1) as there’s no way to predefine a mask for scanning folder/file names, I have:
- “artist “Ska”, song “P”” for “Ska-P – Tio Sam” and
- “artist (artist), song (name of festival)” for “(artist) - (name of festival) – (song)”

Scanning (2):
A2) 90 cases (see A1),
B2) pressing “retry” added no entry for non-VIDEO_TS folders and the pop-up window appeared in a circle for one entry causing me press “cancel” and loose the item,
C2) (same as C1),
D2) no VIDEO_TS folders were added at all.

You see, the result is far from being perfect and DB is far from being full and correct.

Still waiting for the concept of scanning being changed and VIDEO_TS structure being supported.

Bro I am curious. Why don't you use like a directory option... All my videos are in well named directores, none of this all in one mixup.... The system seems to not use the directory names but the names of the files which is good but should be used as a second element. Just can't even find most of my Nine inch nails and a lot of the file names them selves uses the "-" symbol which seems to cause the system to miss the second half of the word.. Sorry if I'm not making any sense, but really should be treating directories as a rule. If some one doesn't organise their songs in this way then they don't deserve to use this sort of plugin

Just my two cents.. Went back to 0.1... Seemed to search better to be honest... Not so much jargon..

Maybe not as a rule.
But we really need a kind of scanning-mask constructor for each directory.
I put a proposal to use tags-masks (see my post 2008-10-04, 19:40)

Well this plugin is cool if the searching would take less time. I have 1000's of videoclips and everytime it finds multiple choises i need to choise. Ok for 10-100vidclips it aint a problem. but now it takes ages to complete. Mayby ad a choise that it always takes the first choise of the multiple choise list so i can later edit if needed. It will take less time for so much video clips. most times i still need to take the first choise except for the older clips.

Well dont get me wrong i still like this plugin and will defintly use it. even if it takes my 2 days to complete! Thanks for developping it! and i'm sure with some small improvements it will be one of the best plugins for Mediaportal. i am looking for something like this for a verry long time.

OK, the need for directory masks is noted. Thanks to the holidays I'll have a lot of free time this weekend, so I'm working on that right now.

In any of your folders, you can also have a text file containing the artist name to use, the tags to apply to this artist, and the last.fm name (The+Beatles, for example).

These two things should eliminate a lot of these problems.

So for those of you with your videos in subfolders based on the artist name, are those videos then named artist-title? If they're in a folder and the artist name is the folder then the videos in the folder all need to be named the same way, right? Like just title.avi? Or artist-title.avi (where the artist in this case wouldn't matter since the folder name would take precedence)? It seems like the biggest problem is just having the same artist with different variations on their name.
