I am testing the JMM server and everything is looking great. But I'm having the following problem, if I don't disable the private windows firewall on the server, I can't connect to the server from other pc's on the same network. I tried adding outbound rules to the firewall but nothing seems to work except disabling the private firewall. Has anyone else had this problem?

Love this idea.... how do I use it?? Cant find anything in wiki or jmmdesktop apart from Bookmarks tab

At the moment It only works from "Recommendations to Download" and the Missing Episodes utility in JMM Desktop.
But I will be adding it to MA3 Calendar and Recommendations as well.

Sorry I'm not too sure.
JMM Server, by default, runs on port 8111, maybe you can allow that through your firewall (or is that what you already did?)

Yes, that was what I tried first. Then I opened all ports to jmmserver, but nothing worked except disabling the private windows firewall.

Maybe this might help the firewall question. I noticed when I used TCPView, a windows process was binding to port 8111, and not JMM Server. When I opened port 8111 for any process (as well as the default UDP/TCP ports to JMMServer), it worked.

Also, I don't know what kind of bench testing you've done with this, but I wanted to let you know that I'm running SQL Server on Windows Server 2008. I have just under 8,000 episodes (900+ series) cataloged and both JMMServer and JMMDesktop is running well, aside from the incredibly long import times (can't be helped). I don't really use a Media PC, so I haven't tested the Media Portal Plugin.

It would be an understatement to say "I like. ^^" I can't wait for torrent integration for JMMDesktop.

jmmserver was the only program using port 8111. I'm now using zonealarm instead of the windows firewall. That works just fine.

Maybe I didn't explain it well. JMMServer was supposed to be the only program using port 8111. For some reason, it appears that a system (TCPView calls it "System") process binds to 8111 on behalf of JMMServer.

At least Zone Alarm works, but a quick search shows that it isn't supported on Windows Servers. Not sure what flavor your running, but just in case someone else doesn't/can't run ZoneAlarm these 3 rules should work with the built-in advanced firewall settings:
Open JMMServer TCP any
Open JMMServer UDP any
Open any TCP 8111

As to why it does this...not sure...All I know is that this was my troubleshooting steps:
Using TCPView, before I launch JMMServer, UDP 4556 and TCP 8111 are not used.
After I launch JMMServer, UDP 4556 binds to JMMServer on the IPv4 Stack. TCP 8111 binds to System on the IPv6 Stack.
When I shut down JMMServer, UDP 4556 and TCP 8111 are closed.
After that, I plugged in the third rule above, and it worked. I never went back and changed the other two rules (one would think that since JMMServer doesn't bind, the first rule doesn't apply). I know this fixes problems when using JMMDesktop. I have no idea if this does anything for the Media Portal Plugin.

Thanks for helping to test JMM :)
Yeah not much I can do about the import times, but it should actually be quicker than MA2.
MA3 should actually be faster than JMM Desktop, as it shows a lot less information.

To be honest I hadn't planned on torrent integration for JMM Desktop, as I didn't think it would be very useful if you were already using a desktop PC.
Meaning you can search quite easily already. How did you think it would be useful?

In regards to the firewall issues, thanks for the information.
I will see if it is possible to somehow make it easier.
