Ok, i've just tested the new library and it seems to work fine, however the video name (showed at the top in my skin) it's not fine when i'm using it with online videos. I'll keep testing to report the results here...
Hi all,
I just uploaded a new version of the plugin. See the first post of this thread for the download link. A changelog will be added later to the first post.
And as always if you encounter a bug please post a it here and include a log in your post so that I hopefully can reproduce the issue. Feedback, improvement suggestions or anything else is also welcome.
I have some vob's that will not play in MP, so I decided to give this a try.
This is a rather lengthy thread to read for first-time-users of this plugin, so please excuse if I missed something that is alreay covered.
First question: To use this, I will need to start the seperate new menu-item for MPlayer, right? Or is there already a way to have it replaced the internal player when using the normal VIDEO menu-item?
Second question: It is mentioned a few times about seeking problems. I am also experiencing that. No workaround yet?
1.) If you want to play only one specific file via mplayer, you only have to activate the "External player use"-option in the configuration for the desired extension. But if the folder contains a DVD structure, MP will detects this and will always use it's internal player or start the external player application. Than you have to use the gui plugin of My MPlayer. This plugin will than force MP to start the DVD through MPlayer.
2.) The main problem is that MP and MPlayer are using different way of seeking. MP always want to seek to absolute positions. MPlayer has this feature too, but relative seeking is working better. In the plugin now all absolute seeks are transformed into relative seeks, but this isn't a perfect solution. Unfortunately for some file types, MPlayer can't even read the duration of the file, so seeking is impossible in this case.
Interesting that the "External player use" does not want to work on vob files (no dvd structure, just loose standing vob). If I rename it to mpg, and use the "External player use" on mpg, then it works great.
Hi MisterD,
Before I install this plugin, could you globally mention the known issues and differences in comparison to the internal player, here and/or in the opening post?
I think that would help out a lot of potential users...
Hi kkendall,
the main difference between the internal player and MPlayer is that you don't have to take care of the codecs. The goal of My MPlayer is to integrate MPlayer as best as possible into MP. This means that the external player will react and support almost all features of the internal player.
Since MP doesn't allow to use external player plugins for DVD and some other formats, I have included an additional window plugin. So My MPlayer are two plugins: external player and window plugin. Only when you use this window plugin the external player MPlayer will be used for every file. If you are in MyVideos or any other plugin (except OnlineVideo) than MPlayer will only be used for those extension that are defined in setup.
My MPlayer has also some additional features comparing to the internal player:
- Adjustable audio/subtitle delay
- Adjustable subtitle position and size. The subtitles can only be displayed within the video.
This plugin has also an OSD. You can use the OSD of MPlayer or an additional library which simulates the MP OSD.
Currently I'm aware of the following issues/problems:
- Seeking doesn't work for all file formats. This is related to the way of seeking in MP.
- I see a small white border in fullscreen when using Vista. Unfortunately I had no time to find the reason for this.
- Volume control doesn't work with Vista.
