For some reason I have to restart MediaPortal everytime I want to play a new movie, regardless of format. Has anyone had this problem?

EDIT: I have a correction to that. In My Online Videos I can only play a video if MPlayer hasn't been active in the current MediaPortal session. In "My MPlayer GUI" every other file I attempt to play doesn't work. When opening a video attempt 1 works, attempt 2 doesn't but instead seems to clean the cache, attempt 3 works, attempt 4 doesn't but instead seems clean the cache, attempt 5 works etc. etc. etc.

I assume that you are using Vista. MPlayer works under Vista but not very well. The best solution for this is to disable Aero. Also I don't believe that there will be a better solution for this in the near future.
Unfortunately I don't have the time atm to do a long testing session with Vista and find a solution for this problem.

Is there any way to make MPlayer the default player for DVDs on the harddisk (video_ts folder or video_ts.ifo)? They alwas get opened by the internal video engine, even if i register .ifo as an extension in the MPlayer plugin configuration.

No. MP automatically detects that the folder contains a DVD and than uses its internal player (or configured external player - not plugin). If you want to do this, you have to change this in MP directly.

The problem is that MPlayer doesn't detect correct the duration of the file:
    Code:
    2008-02-19 00:01:24.671875 [Info.][12]: MPlayer: Data received: ID_LENGTH=0.00
If the plugin doesn't detect a duration > 0 than seeking will be disabled, because MP needs the duration for the seek steps. There are also no hints for out of sync errr.
    :sorry:

Is it not possible simply to configure mplayer as the external player for DVDs? I mean, use mplayer directly, not via the mymplayer window plugin.

You can only specify the mplayer.exe in the configuration as external player for DVDs. But than the video isn't integrated in MP, the remote won't work etc. The reason is that MP only start MPlayer and doesn't interact than with MPlayer. This can only be done by an external player plugin.

    Thanks for the answer.
And it's not possible to make an external player plugin for watching DVDs? I don't really like the internal MP player. The video size is often wrong and some DVDs don't even get to the root menu. Also MPlayer doesn't need as much CPU power.

I do use mplayer as an external player in "My Videos". I'm pretty sure you can also configure it to be used under "DVD Player". My remote control does work as I have set it up to send the right keystrokes to mplayer for play/pause/jump etc. I'm very satisfied with this setup, it has released me from codec hell :)

It isn't possible to write external player plugin for DVDs. The only possibility is the one I have implemented already. You can start a DVD through the window plugin of My MPlayer. Than the window plugin doesn't tell MP that it wants to start a DVD. But the external player plugin of My MPlayer detects that it is a DVD and starts it.
And since MP is in feature-freeze I can't change this in MP.

You can always configure an external player in the configuration program for DVD and configure your remote to send the right keystrokes, if your remote does support this. But I don't like such a solution.
