I couldn't make it work on my Vista system but right now i reinstalled Vista so i will post my result with this clean installation later tonight...


Edit:with this this clean Vista movie trailers is working great so there is no problem with your plugin or with MP,i have not even installed QT alternative and is still working.

I'm also having the playback problem. I used GraphEdit to test the playback of a .mov file and it didn't work (picture1)
It seems that the problem was the Nero MP4 Splitter. So I changed it with the Haali Media Splitter (AR) and it worked!!

These are the first steps, what to do next? Is Haali the best option to choose, what's better?

Hello.

Not to downplay any of the fine work that armandp is doing, but attached is the current copy of the My Trailers plugin I was working on. I took out the whole archive displaying thing that it used to do and added a searching feature. Please note that this version requires that you enable the VLC external player for http protocol. Sorry for the long delay, I've been quite busy as of late. I'll probably clean up all of the unused code this weekend and post the source.

I'd pick Haali over Nero anytime!

Hi armandp,

I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. I have only tried it on my test pc, until a solution works ok there, then I will implement it on my HTPC.

Even after your suggestions, the same problem exists. Nero MP4 splitter is always being used in graph edit. If I manually change this to Haali Media Splitter it works ok. Do you know how I can use Haali as the default splitter instead of Nero?

I even tried uninstalling k-lite codec pack but that just stopped it working in media player classic as well. MPC uses ffdshow successfully, without any of these changes. Why can't My Trailers (MP) use these as default I wonder?

Pretoriano - clearly there is a problem as I can play these ok in other software ;0) Also, how did you get it working without any additional codecs? Could you tell me which codecs you have installed on your system?

Change the merits so that Haali is the preferred splitter for these kind of files. Nero is evil

Untill i force a graph on the player (and i don't see any simple way yet - other than writing my own player class - if some experienced developer can tell me otherwise i'd be happy) you will be going by the ds merit system. This means that you have to know how to control your codecs

I will first focus on the plugin part before i dive into creating custom players for MP. To be honest, imho the solution to correct playback is having a clean/controlled codec configuration on your OS. Also when i have add the option to download&play the Nero splitter will work because you won't be streaming the files.

Btw.. there also is a scheduled download alternative for the apple trailers that will work because you can play them local.

And in other news:

I want to propose for my plugin to keep the same name as My Trailers but branch it of with an higher version number (it's a total rewrite though). So you'll have the fixed/patched old My Trailers by LRFalk and my version untill we meet at the end and fuse both together in the new modular design. I designed the new plugin so that adding YahooTrailers or any other source will be easy to do. Much like OnlineVideos but purely focussed on Trailers.

I want to know how LRFalk and ofcourse the community feel about this proposal.
I'm still gonna finish this plugin with one name or the other that's for sure

Great to hear.. clean/controlled system for the win..

So going by this information.. Haali + "AAC" codec + H264/AVC codec.. (MPC is just one of the working ones) = able to play streaming QT. QTLite is still needed for browser based usage but for directshow it's not

For step by step instructions on how to change merits use google (if i have the time i can post something but i know there already are enough of these tutorials floating around)

Another codec check mentioned many times on this forum is Filmerit, which will find broken codecs and can fix them. It also allows you to change codec merits. Make sure Nero has a merit value of 0x200000 (i.e. this is the merit value of 'Don't use this to make a graph').

roopert:if you are getting only a black screen it must be easy to get movie trailers to work because i can reproduce this thing on my XP system and i agreed with armandp,you only have to change the merit of nero spplitter(try only to lower the nero spitter merit first without touching other filters merit because if you mess to much with this merits thing you can endup much worse if something go wrong)and then try to play a trailer in MP,and if it's not working will try another step.BTW i'm using Filmerit to change merits:Download homepage of Paul Glagla

sleepycol:sleepy before i reinstalled Vista i was gettin an "unable to play,please try again later" error and i think it's hard for you to get movie trailers work if you have tha same error.I tell you that i've tryed almost everything(changing merit,unistalling filters and codecs,clean the regystry,etc)but no go.
Now with the clan install i'm using CoreAVC 1.70,Haali media spliter,Ac3,FFDshow last build,xvid decoder and the MP video decoder.I'm curious,if you try Gspot with a .mov file can find the right filters and codecs?
