Hi Armandp,

Well done! This now works with VLC. I had to install VLC and the plugin on my test pc ;0) I just enabled http streams in the vlc plugin config in media portal (is this ok?). Also, when playing a trailer stream in MP, Haali Media Splitter was still showing me error messages so I also had to disable error reporting in the haali media splitter settings. After I ok'd the errors the streams began to play (I assume as your plugin fell back to using VLC on errors) As far as codecs go, I only have klite codec pack and QTlite installed (I returned my test pc to the same setup as my HTPC for the purposes of this testing).

At the moment all streams in my trailers ok, apart from the "large" streams. Logs attached. Are they a different stream type?

I would still prefer to only use the internal player, but beggars can't be choosers!! ;0)

Thanks for your efforts!

EDIT: Also works on my HTPC!

Cheers,
Colin

Might be just me but what do you guys meen by the "VLC plugin"?
I have VLC installed (with activx and mozzilla plugin if that's what you mean) but still couldn't get this to work.
Haali mediasplitter always throws an error with can't open file, no reason just that... Really like to make this work.

Edit:
Found it, guess you guys mean this plugin. Still no joy for me though. It still comes up with the unknown error of Haali media splitter.
btw I have K-Lite codecpack installed. I can view local mov's fine in WMP and mediaportal.
When I use GRaphstudio on a mov locally I see FFDshow is rendering. Don't know too much 'bout codecs though.

I can also stream this video fine with VLC player
http://movies.apple.com/movies/lionsgate/the_spirit/thespirit-tlr2_h320.mov

Just found that when I disable Gabest MOV splitter in k-lite tweak tool I can't play local files anymore (so that's doing something i suppose) VLC can still play. However still throws the Haali error when trying to stream in MP... probably need to disable more but then I can't play local files anymore.

I haven't installed VLC and tried to get it to work anyway.. But I failed :'-(
To bad. MPC en WMP can play the trailers without any problems.

I hope there's gonna be a solution to play them with MP (without VLC)..

Great work though!! :D

Have you enable the VLC plugin in MP Config to play http streams?

Also, go into your haali splitter settings (int he klite codec start menu) and disable error reporting, to get rid of the annoying error messages.

After much experimenting on my test PC (which had klite codec pack and QT alternative installed) I found the following (if you are willing to test this on yours too:

1) Remove klite codec pack
2) Install VistaCodec Pack (ok for XP too) Download Vista Codec Package 4.7.3 - With this package installed, you shouldn't need to install any other codec or filter - Softpedia
3) After this I had problems playing "some" local .mov files. However, in the vista codec pack start menu, there is a shortcut to set .mov to allow play from mobiles (or something like that, can't remember exact option)
4) AC3filter is installed with this codec pack, but if you want it to be used I had to enable ac3 playback in its options. Otherwise spdifer is used.

However, as with many of these things changing anything from your current "working" setup might disrupt something else. So try at your own risk ;0)

Cheers,
Colin

Yep did that. Also checked the mov extension for playback by the plugin.

Not sure you need to check the .mov playback option. I didn't. Also, I assume you copy and pasted the .dll file from the VLC install directory to the mediaportal directrory? Basically did you follow all the VLC install steps in post 27 of this thread?

My setup still gave the haali errors but My Trailers then falls back to using the VLC plugin. Thats when things start working for me. So you need to ok the errors and it should then play. Disabling Haali error reporting means you dont "see" the errors, My Trailers then uses VLC.

I've installed:
- FFDShow
- CoreAVC 1.7
- HAAII
- QT Lite
- PowerDVD 8
- AC3Filter
- Xvid codec

- (nero)

Yesterday I played a .mov with Gspot to check which codecs are used. Seems like the .mov file is played with some Nero codecs :(
So I'll try and fix that first -> Be sure it uses the QT codec instead.

sleepycol thanks for helping me.

It's workin!!!! awesome!!

I think I was just to impatient while testing it and the stream just didn't start playing because I didn't wait long enough.
This is just great. These codec issues are bothering the crap out of me with my Hauppauge PVR150 so I didn't want to screw around to much making mov streams work (cause I might screw over the TV playback).

And ArmandP thank you also for making this a little easier to setup.

Thanks again!

joz, if you used the VLC plugin, the setup was no different than that of my interpretation of the plugin. (Just so you know.) : )
