Should I implement an automatic file organizer to move and rename files?

Zeflash and I are currently working on a new version using the online database mentioned earlier. Development is active and you can take a look yourself at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp-tvseries/

However we have a big problem and that is providing a mirror. If anyone can help out there please get in touch with me. To be clear, no mirror means no public release utilizing the online db. We would then need to think about going back to manually scraping the html sites (I strongly don't prefer this option).

Also, if anyone wants to help out with development, please also get in touch with either one of us.

thats good news Inker but i think we need more information about providing a mirror for http://tvdb.zsori.com/.

What are the specification for providing a mirror?

can you please give us more information?
Also it will be nice imo to provide some feedback here about the new Plugin development.
    thanks

Ok, just so that I understand (please realise XML, scraping, etc. is something I have little experience with)... the problem at the moment is that the site providing the data no longer does so... your thinking is that- scraping will be a problem because it may require fairly regular format changes?

My interest is only very recent (today), but if I understand the problem correctly it is that the site relied upon to do that ‘reformatting' or ‘mirroring’ no longer does- is that a considerably less frequent occurrence?

Or is it that your mirror problem is for the plug in project itself (CVS)?

I am sorry if these questions seem stupid.

Oh I see the people offering the service want to share the load... then more information about what they require would seem the next logical thing.

I will check on the details regarding the mirror and get back to you.

Brenton, there is now a middle tier that does the scraping from various sites, as well as allows direct user input for shows not on these sites. It also allows for multiple languages and user provided banners. This middle tier is accessed via webservices. The plugin now queries this webservice and gets all the data back well formatted. This is much faster and much more reliable.

It is this middle tier that we need to provide a mirror for, in order to share the load, if we wish to query their database.

can you please share some details on how you get along with the new changes on the plugin please.

i.e. did you only change the database that you are querying for the shows or you guys are making bug fixes additions and other things to the plugin?

I see the value in this middle tier (especially from a coding complexity point of view)

But what I am wondering (and I except that my lack of experience may be showing here) is- if you rely on this one site to 'pull it all together' what happens if they stop running, or start charging?

Would the program not be more versatile (if admittedly more complex) if it did this data nexus itself?

What I mean is, these other database sites seem to be well established, and as such less likely to change.

I put together a horse betting program similar to this (in that it required data from my local TAB) and was rather annoyed at being at the mercy of that provider, until I adjusted it so it would scrape data from different turf sites.

Of course; it was a program just for me... so it did not matter if they changed format and the program stopped working, until I adapted, as such I think I can see what you are going for, but still I wonder- if the providers of this middle tier are not reliable, will we not be in the same boat?

Great! Thanks, will contact you and zag2me as soon as I have more details. Maybe we'll have two mirrors :)
