Am I correct in thinking that this plugin is only useful if you can use the internal volume control to control the computer speaker volume levels. I'm connected to my surround system through the S/PDIF optical connector, I think it has a constant level. I have to control my surround system volume externally to make sound level changes.

Sounds like a great tool for those who can use it.

Marvin a quick question!:D
I have NZ TV - most of our h.264 TV channels are in "regular" 720 def with stereo sound. The other single channel is 1080 with surround sound encoding. I ticked the use AC3 filter if possible but then get 5 .1 channel digital sound that is loud compared to other channels.

I have a AV receiver getting SPDIF from my HTPC. Does this pluggin help me and what setting should I use.
I currently have MP set to "master" volume control in vista and generally use my HTPC volume control for volume adjustement (with some use of AV receiver for "macro adjustment - very loud or soft...)

Sorry to put all this in for you but am confused from above discussion and the fact that MyVolume pluggin seems to make little difference to my problem.

regards and thanks in advance

    1.0.2.0 breaks my volume plugin

    Hi,
can somebody confirm that MyVolume 1.0.1. is broken by latest 1.0.2.0. MP release?
Volume level is not retained anymore (clean setup).

    Thanks,
    Ruud.

btw. wouldn't it be a nice idea to have a MyAspectRatio plugin: the basis is already in place ;)

    Hi Neville,

SPDIF works with his own sound level, you can't adjust it. But if you have a soundcard that convert from digital to analog and back then it works, had read of those cards, but you loose quality of your stream.

    Hi Ruud,

i will check that, don't have actually installed the new version of MP.

And for MyAspectRatio you are right, its not a big deal, if i have time, i'll code that :D

    stay tuned...

    Hi Ruud,

i can't confirm that, works without problems.

Did you enabled MyVolume? By default is not.

    Hi Martin,

thanks for the confirmation, will retry. I'm sure that I enabled it. Are there any logs that should register what MyVolume does in which I can see that it is doing something or is the only place the myvolume.xml?

    regards,
    Ruud.

Yeah you can see entries in Mediaportal.log.
The entries start with "MyVolume:" but you have to select the information level "debug" before.

Okay, just solved it by configuring 'external receiver ' instead of 'mediaportal'.....

    regards,
    Ruud.

    feature request

I've got a major feature request: why not extend this plugin so that it is keeps track of volume levels between different plugins/audio sources? For instance, in my situation i have the following different plugins/sources:
    1. radiotime (streaming mp3, real media)
    2. tvgemist (asf/asx)
    3. youtube.fm (mp4, flash)
    4. films (mp3, ac3)
It would be nice to have a source-dependant base-volume, and on top of that a station specific correction (in plugins through which multiple stations are available). In my situation there would be a need for specific corrections for radiotime, tvgemist and youtube.fm.

I don't know if there even exists a generic solution for this, but maybe we can think of something? (some dialogue in the context menu where you can set a volume for the current 'state' mp is in??).

    Hi Bloasfist,

    if i understand you right.

You want to adjust the volume for different audio sources (radiotime, tvgemist, youtube etc..)

    Thats should be possible.

The behaviour would be like this (with the current implementation):

    HTML:
    Select external Receiver Mode
    Choose Youtube
Adjust sound volume inside of MP
Everytime you change the volume the new volume would store

    or

    Select Mediaportal Mode
    enable learning mode
    Choose Youtube
Adjust sound volume inside of MP (MyVolume stores the volume)
    disable learning mode
And now, everytime you change the volume inside of MP,
you change the Master Volume and the stored volume of youtube will load
and calculate the relative sound volume.

If you want that, just with the option to adjust another streams (youtube etc.)
Then it shouldn't be a problem to add the feature, otherwise you have to explain a little bit more in detail.

    regards,
    Martin

Your second explanation (as quoted) was exactly what i had in mind! Good to hear adding this feature shouldn't be a problem. I'd be happy to do some testing with beta-versions. However i'll be gone for the next three weeks (vacation), so it would be after that (maybe just test it yourself ;)).
