I have the 1.2.2 version of MP and looking to find if it has available a DVD plug-in. The Blu-Ray Handler does not work for me nor does it seem to be supported at this time. For the native player, I would have to roll back version, correct? Any pointers to guide me in the right direction would be great. This is my first htpc build and using MP. Thanks!

I'm not quiet sure if i understand your question, but here's some info for you:

This TEST version of MediaPortal is for Blu-ray support (and it's menus).
MediaPortal can play DVDs from folders (see Video section in MediaPortal config) or .ISO/Image files.
More info about this can be found in the Wiki.

Besides the native support you might wanna take a look at Moving Pictures.

Thank you! Let me do a little bit of additional reading and circle back for any questions I may have. My challenge is that I put together my first ever htpc build and now loaded MediaPortal and was trying to get my BluRay DVD Player/Writer to work. I downloaded the "Blu-ray Handler" plugin and is enabled in the process area of plugins within MP config, yet, has not been able to work or show up in the MP GUI.

    Hi there,

The Blueray plugin is different to the solution in this thread - you should only use one or the another.

In relation to the bluray support - you will not get any extra GUI option (it works behind the scenes) - you simply insert a disc and it should be supported and bring up the menu (dependant on the format of the disc) as per using a DVD (assuming there is no copy protection/DRM issues)

If you are trying to play an ISO/image of the bluray/DVD, then you will need a third party utility that mounts the ISO and makes the contents avaialble to MePo (and something to manage the copy protection)

Thanks Jay_UK. I have a blu-ray DVD writer (Lite-On iHBS212-08 12X Internal Blu-Ray Writer - BD-R SL 12X, BD-R DL 8X, BD-RE SL/DL 2X, DVD±R 16X, DVD-RAM 12X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, CD-R/RW 48X, LightScribe) and I am trying to use with Media Portal. SOme folks told me to use the "Blu-ray Handler" plugin yet it has never worked (or at least I have been unable to get to work). So, I am trying to use this device and run within MP, so what do I need and/or can do to launch from MP? My product SW did bring a CD with PowerDVD 10 BD, PowerDirector 7, PowerProducer 5, Power2Go 6, PowerBackup 2 and a LabelPrint 2 add'l. On the htpc, the PowerDVD 10 BD is not installed, I believe a friend told me that would not be required and would run into codec issues if installed ..... not sure! I also have ArcShowBiz. Any ideas or help with this would be appreciated! I am completely new to htpc's and MP, yet, interested in learning. Thank you!

    Hey ltpr :)
    Look @ first post :p
For this Installer BD, it's better to use LAV Filter codec :
*It is recommended to do all the testing with LAV audio and video decoders: http://1f0.de/downloads/. Remember to enable VC1 support as it is disabled by default in LAV video decoder.

No need to have BDHandler plugin (but if you want to use it, you need LAV splitter from above link).
You have to have a free BD to make it work or use a tool like AnyDVDHD to be able to start your Bluray DisK.

Then if all requirement are done, BD Should start (Remember that BD-J most of them didn't work when selected "MENU")

To setup MP, you need to start config (try advanced mode and set in bluray section your preferred language by default it's empty and need to be filled).
Setup Codec section (the bluray part but also the other part) with your codec of choice.

If you can fill your system info in your User CP to see what kind of material you have.
If you have an NVidia card (please setup Cuvid for LAV Video codec).

If all is ok, when you insert your BD, you should see a popup for starting menu or title.

Remember that Moving Picture or other plugin like Myfilm etc will not work yet. You have to use MyVideo if you want to play BD on your hdd or iso.

Please pour your log to try to see where it failed :)

    Seb.

Thanks Sebastiii..... I downloaded the LAV filter and installed and also installed TVServer plugin (mentioned "TvMovie++ Plugin successfully installed!". When you mentioned MyVideo (is that another plugin that I need to download/install or embedded with MP?) Again, thank you! As I mentioned I am knew to this and want to get my Bluray DVD running with MP. Thanks!

After installing I do not see a TvMovie installed in the TV Server Config app. I do see a TV Movie EPG Import plugin!!!! Under MP Config, I do not see any add'l plugins there either. And, under Codecs and Renderer, I do not see LAV. By the way, how do I enable Vc1 support on LAV? You also mention "You have to have a free BD to make it work or use a tool like AnyDVDHD to be able to start your Bluray DisK." , do I need this beyond the plugging and the SW that cam with the BR DVD? Thanks!

MyVideo is a part of MP (directly include).
Codecs ans Renderer, you have a dropbox to select the codec you want to use (so select Lav Video and audio).
To setup LAV Video to enable VC1, you need to start from start menu in LAV codec (from the installer) and set Cuvid for Nvidia or DXVA for ATI and in codec tab select VC1.
And yes you need AnyDVD HD (or similar tools) to unprotect your BD movie. After that you will able to play BD.
Look @ the wiki how to setup codec etc. :)
    Good luck :)
