Ok, so I'm going over the XMLTV instructions you linked me to. And right out of the box I'm a bit confused. How can I use these instructions if I have to set up MC2xml but I'm not using it? I'm using Zap2it? If I follow the instructions for Mc2 then I may as well forget about zap2it, right? Man this stuff is hard.

Like I said in my earlier reply: skip over all the earlier stuff (which is the stuff related to mc2xml) and start at the "Setup XMLTV Plugin" section.

[edit: To be unequivocally clear: you do not need mc2xml if you have zap2xml. The reason I've directed you to this guide is because end product/result of running both mc2xml and zap2xml is the same - an XMLTV file which can be imported by the XMLTV plugin. So, the instructions for configuring mc2xml are irrelevant, but everything relating to importing the XMLTV file is relevant. It's not as complicated as you seem to think it is. :)]

Hey, also, I did follow the instructions but I chose to use the zap2xml. I think at this point, I'm following you - if I'm right, you're instruction is now that I got the XML file out of zap2xml, skip the Mc2 part and get to installing XMLTV? Is that right?

What I'm confused about is that I thought the Webepg in MP was supposed to load in the XML? Why do I need XMLTV? Isn't the webepg plugin good enough? I guess I'm not sure what part in the instructions to go to now that I have the XML.

One more point - I noticed there are 2 xml files that were created - One is TVguide.xml and one is XMLtv.xml. The latter is zap2it. I'm thinking the former was created by MP when I tried to load it???? Not really sure.

Perfect, will do and again, thanks so much.

    Yes, that's right.

What I'm confused about is that I thought the Webepg in MP was supposed to load in the XML?
No. WebEPG scrapes (downloads... technically without legal permission) EPG data from websites like IMDB.
Maybe you're confusing XML (ie. the format of the WebEPG grabber file) and XMLTV (ie. the format of the XMLTV EPG data file).
Whatever the case: if you're using zap2xml, you do not need WebEPG. Please disable it.

    Why do I need XMLTV?
To import the XMLTV file (which contains all the EPG data) that zap2xml produces.

Isn't the webepg plugin good enough?
No. It doesn't import XMLTV files; it has a completely different function.

One more point - I noticed there are 2 xml files that were created - One is TVguide.xml and one is XMLtv.xml. The latter is zap2it. I'm thinking the former was created by MP when I tried to load it???? Not really sure.
As zap2xml's documentation explains: xmltv.xml is the default output (XMLTV) file name.
You've got xmltv.xml from when you ran zap2xml without the -o switch/option/setting (by double clicking on it).
You've got tvguide.xml either from renaming xmltv.xml or from running zap2xml with the "-o tvguide.xml" swich/option/setting on the command line.

You can delete xmltv.xml (but not xmltv.dtd).

Ok, so I'm going through the instructions and I'm stuck. When I click Import on the plugin, it imports 0 channels. The only difference here is that I used Zap2it to create the xml files. Any ideas?

The problem is most likely to be one of:
    • zap2xml has not generated a full/proper XMLTV file
    • you haven't renamed the XMLTV file (xmltv.xml => tvguide.xml) properly
    • you haven't entered the location of the XMLTV file in TV Server's XMLTV plugin properly
I'd be happy to have a look with you if you'd like to set up a TeamViewer connection.

Ok, so I'm trying again. When zap2it creates the file, it's call xmltv. Am I to rename this to tvguide.xml using Windows? Do caps matter?

Again, I'm grateful for the patience and help.

    Yes.
    The name should be tvguide.
    The extension should be .xml
    Altogether it is tvguide.xml.
If your system is configured to hide file name extensions (which is the default), it's easy to name the file tvguide.xml.xml... so don't do that.

    Do caps matter?
    No, I don't think so.
I'm 100% sure that "tvguide.xml" (ie. all lower case) would work.

So I did as you say and the plugin still won't import. I probably should mention that the .dtd file has a different date than the tvguide.xml file. I don't know what the dtd is. It was in the folder when I found the xml file that zap2xml created. I don't know if zap2xml creates the dtd or is that a file that came with the installation of zap2xml? Does the DTD need to be updated along with the xml?
