How should newlines be formatted in XMLTV <desc> tag to also make them displayed inside MP?

Regular newlines (just \n) do not appear to work. Do I need to add HTML tags like <br />? Wouldn't that conflict with XML?

New line codes are:

1. Carriage return: &#xD;
2. Line feed: &#xA;

You could also format the xml using CDATA, like this:

<desc><![CDATA[ stuff goes in here
then a new line
then the CDATA end tag ]]></desc>

CDATA preserves text formatting.
