Hi matonking,
Can you play any mpeg2 files (dvd)?(like silentyl asked) Downloaded an Mpeg file and can play it on WMP and VLC no problem
Is it also ok if you play the file in mediaportal?

I'm not a great expert of the mediaportal tvserver but:
In the tvserver log, are your signal levels very low:

Your NV driver may be having problems LAV CUVID (it is known to happen)

Try LAV video set to DXVA native.

If your cpu is powerfull enough then LAV video set to 'none' will use cpu only and no gpu; for another test.

Haven't seeen this mentioned but have you any antivirus software monitoring the folders that MP uses for video files and timeshifting ?

Tried it with DXVA, NONE and QUICKSYNC INTEL:

DXVA = No image at all on any SD channel (HD still works)
NONE = Pixelated (Blocky) image (HD still works)
quicksync = Smooth image on some channels, no image on others.( HD still works )

Don't use active virus software, only passive (i.e I turn it on every so often to scan the computer but it is off the rest of the time).[DOUBLEPOST=1356267495][/DOUBLEPOST]

Can't seem to locate video files through MediaPortal. Attempting to "open with.." does nothing but take me to the main menu on MediaPortal.

I noticed the continuity error when i was running the streaming test. No idea what all that stuff means though.

The signal I have hardly changes from channel to channel, but I should note that i've seen it in the >60% and still have sputters but i'll read out a few that I have right now:

Signal level (SL) - Signal Quality (SQ)

Film4 - SL ~45 SQ ~95 ( runs awful not watchable )
Dave - SL ~32 SQ ~95 ( runs medium jumps every few seconds)
STV - SL ~ 41 SQ ~95 (runs fairly smooth occasional sputter)
BBC2 - SL ~27 SQ ~95 (runs fialry smooth occasional sputter)
ITV4 - SL ~35 SQ ~ 95 (like watching the previous channel as a single frame that never changes)

CH4HD - SL~30 SQ ~ 99 (silky smooth and no issues)
STVHD same as above

If only there were more HD channels on freeview :(

Hi mantonking,

First you should try to play a mpeg2 file in mediaportal.
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...figuration/MediaPortal_Configuration/2_Videos
check only the videofolder and videodatabase part.
If you have troubles with the configuration, post it here and i shall try to help.

This is what I see:

videos.png

I'll stick an Mpeg2 video into the playlist folder and I can't see it.
If I right click "open with.." and select MediaPortal it only takes you to the home screen where you have "TV PICTURES VIDEOS...etc" at the bottom

EDIT:

Got it working. It plays fine as far as I can tell, no skipping. Though the file extension is .m2v which might mean it isn't an mpeg2 file?

Just place a dvd in your dvdplayer ,if the dvd plays in mediaportal it is clearly no codec issue .

From the continuity errors in the logs, and the fact that you said "WMC is giving me terrible stuttering of images" in the first post, it looks very much like you have a TV signal quality problem - with the SD Freeview muxes anyway.

Do you have another Freeview receiver connected to the same aerial feed ? If so, does that work OK ?

I suspect the HD is better because all the Freeview HD channels are on the same mux (basically each 'mux' uses one RF channel, which is equivalent to one old analogue channel) and maybe you just get better reception on that mux, plus the modulation scheme (DVB-T2) used for the HD mux is more robust (it has better error correction) - the four SD muxes use DVB-T.

What sort of aerial do you have, and is it connected to the tuner card ?

Your userinfo shows you are UK based.

What transmitter are you receiving from in the UK ?

At this point in time only the three main MUX's of six are upto max power and not all areas, most areas have low-med power across all six mux's; this will lead to poor reception and drop outs.

Link to MUX EPG listings; change for your transmitter.

    http://www.terrestrialtv.co.uk/dtt....DBL6I&hist=&data=&col=LNTMHC&disp=1&grp=&oair=

Link to transmitter details; chage for your transmitter.

    http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SZ447865

At this point use the TVServer Configuration SETUPTV.

Manual tune tvserver.JPG Preview TV channel.JPG Preview TV gives a short graph path.JPG

The first will show you the real time details while timeshiting of the state of reception. The levels are only specific to your tuner card.

The second allows you to preview a channel with a very short direct grah path. IS viewing better here than in MP UI.

At this point in time my reception is beng affected by the weather here and I usualy get a max signal from ROWRIDGE transmitter but now it is pulsing around medium.

Since digital switchover after APRIL this year some transmitters have also switched polarization from Horizontal to Vertical which affects how your roof aerial is set up.

Two test files to play in MP UI. Both UK broadcast SD and HD of same content .

Play these with STATS running and compare performance between SD and HD. They should run perfect without spikes or dropouts.

Seems to be running fine. Though it takes quite a while for the DVD to start up (runs instantly on VLC)

I'm from paisley so I use the Blackhill transmitter, used it for years and it would give a great reception on my old freeview (built into the TV) for all channels. I no longer use it because the menu system was slow as heck (very annoying) and it doesn't have HD channels.

Though some of the above are red^^ whatever that means.

    Next:

I tried out the timeshift thing again and i'm getting some weird results...

    1. Some of them jump from being "Tuner locked:" Yes to No.
    2. Signal level will jump from 14 to 80
    3. Signal quality is at 100 all the time
    4. Discontinuities can stay at 5, 10, 24, 40 depending on the channel i'm watching
    5. On some channels I'm getting this...
    timeshift.png

I can't get either GraphEdit or GraphStudio to show any form of graphs.. not really sure why!

These are working fine with no issues. No spikes/stutters in the STATS thing.

I'll try to something similar for you guys to see whats happening with mine. i.e record some of the stuttering and show how much better it is on HD.

Right now, I don't seem to have access to some of the worst affected channels (getting no audio/video errors). Which is funny considering I was watching them this morning.. well attempting to.
