I turned on my HTPC today and there is no sound. Yesterday it worked fine, i have all the codecs i need. So what the hell happend, no matter how i config the machine nothing happens.
Does sound still work in Windows, or has it gone from there too? I had a nasty experience with sound dissapearing on my PC last week, which was due to a Trojan getting onto it which killed lots of services in XP, including the Windows Audio Service - and this was with me running up to date AV software and a firewall
Hopefully this is not what you have, but if it's only in MP where your sound has died, it might be a different issue compared to if the sound has gone in Windows and therefore MP also.
I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.
