I have two htpcs, one with an 6600GT video card/nvidia purevideo, a second with an ati 9800 and other software like dscaler and ffdshow. I've always been a big supporter of ffdshow, but its seems like the best picture comes from the nvidia setup. Part of the difference in the hardware itself, but if you have a nvidia card that supports purevideo its the way to go. Without question it takes less resources, and its a simple setup vs. tweaking something like ffdshow.

Download the trial version and see for yourself if you like it. Most info you get from this or other threads are subjective, you should try it on your setup and see the results.[/url]

I also use it with MP and am very happy [with both products :)]

I have the OEM Bronze version and use SPDIF out on my MSI mobo. See sig for details. I have no problem recommending for nvidia based hardware.

As BoilerMaker says -- try out the demo and see what you think.

I'm using nvidia Purevideo too. I'm happy with it. I think it can give a good smooth image with a nice de-interlacing. What I would have is the way to crop resize image... something you can do with ffdsow but not with purevideo...

I'm using PureVideo as well and are quite happy - image quality is slightly better than with DScaler or InterVideo 4 (at least on my system; it's a GeForce FX 5200 with S-Video-Out and I'm using a simple PAL television set).
And the PureVideo decoder solved a very annoying problem I was having with every other MPEG2 codec so far: MPEG2 video playback was always slightly out of sync with the audio; the video was always about 1/10 seconds too slow. Problem gone with PureVideo! :)

But reading all the other posts here makes me wonder: Why is PureVideo an alternative to ffdshow? I'm using that as well, but just for AVI decoding (DivX, Xvid...). I didn't know you could use ffdshow as an MPEG2 decoder, too? What do you guys use for AVI decoding?

I'm using Purevideo with my 6600GT and have nothing but praise... I did some image tests (just taking a still of the same part of DVDs) against the included MP codecs, and the difference is more than noticeable at 720p.

Playing a movie like Robots or Starwars Episode 3 at 720p (over component) really blows you away :D

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...

@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help! EDIT: I now downgraded the server (as I did with the client above)...
