Id'd like to know if I can oper media portal interface on a secondary monitor(my htpc touch monitor)and content such films,photos etc.on my primary monitor(tv)

No, MP and it's internal player operate on same monitor.
I am not sure if it is doable if you use an external player. Best is to play around with it, but you will loose all the great OSD's of the internal player.
If the files are accessible on your network, which I guess they must be if PowerDVD can play them then you should be able to find them in MP2.

First off: there are some issues with the latest Mediaportal (32bits vs 64bits), so that is one of the issues you're stumbling with.
If you take the previous version (1.31) it should work as expected.
