Re: [plugin] "My NetFlix" Plugin with Watch Now Support

    Two questions for you, WileECoyote:

Is there a list of all the available data elements that are available for use in a skin? I'm trying to customize MyNetflix.xml to look more like Moving Pictures by displaying the synopsis on the List view, but I'm finding that certain variables (like #detailsummary, for instance), are only available when I'm in MyNetflixDetails.xml

Also, would it be possible to use stricter matching rules when retrieving fanart from themoviedb.org? I find that since most TV series do not get an exact hit in the database it will pick one of the partial matches, so I end up with things like Arrested Development Season 1 with a backdrop from The Clone Wars cartoon. I'd much prefer to just show no backdrop at all if it can't find an exact match. Or even better, fail over to tvdb.com for television series.

    Hey Fade23,
Since MyNetflix is a USA plugin only, I have not created a skin developers guide simply because I maintain all the skins. I can put something together for you and attach it to the first post when I get a chance.

As far as the fanart goes, themoviedb.org does all the matching for me. I send the movie name and it sends back a response of the movie 'hits'. I have went as far as matching the movie year, such as Alice in Wonderland has quite a few releases on different years, so I make sure the request from Netflix matches the year from themoviedb.org. If there is no perfect match I take the next best thing...

    @DrJekell,
Yea, the Windows 7 Aero Peek is a pain, I need to add that to the notes on the first post. So your issues are resolved now?

    I love this plug-in.
I am having a random issue with it and MP 1.1RC1-4 Win7. When I hit stop on a movie sometimes instead of returning to the plug-in it looks like MP has crashed. I am not sure if it has, but I am now at the desktop and the task bar will not appear. Sometimes it works fine and it returns to the plug-in screen. When this happens I just reboot and there seems to be no harm done. It's just a pain to have to reboot.

Has anyone else had this issue with Windows 7 & one of the RC of 1.1? Could you do me a favor and clear your logs, reproduce the error then post all your logs? (Note: Please post complete logs)

    Thanks

Ok, I'm totally new to mediaportal and after a few short awesome days messing with it I stumbled across this netflix plug-in. Well, long story short, I can not get it to work/show up at all.

I downloaded the newest zip file. Opened, MP config (as ADMIN in windows 7 64). Clinked plug ins, MPinstaller, then went through the install process which went fine. The configured mynetflix.

Upon opening MP there was no myneflix on the home section. Only reference found inside MP was under browse plug-ins > extensions, and there I can uninstall or reinstall.

If I close MP and open MP con-fig and go to plug-ins I can right click on mynetflix and check either "listed in my plug-ins" or "listed in home". Neither fixes my issue and after "listed in home" and booting MP I can go into browse plug-ins > extensions and there is a missing row of lettering in the list like there should be something there (but is not: between "moving pictures" and "weather") that when the empty space is clicked tells me "missing or invalid file"

Also, after install myneflix and messing with it to try and get it too work my weather is now down (says city is invalid)

    Hey futurecode,
Which version of MP are you using? Could you please clear your logs, reproduce the error and post your complete logs?

    Thanks,
    Wile E.

its the consistent behavior for me. it doesn't crash, it just stays minimized and is not restored.

This happens to me aswell latley, i don't know yet if it's the netflix plugin tho, might be something else.

I also won't see MP on the desktop or taskbar, but it's still running in the background (you can notice it by opening "MP configuration", it will ask you if you want to close MP before opening configuration)

I'm using XP and RC4 so i don't think it has something to do with Win7

Will try to gather some logs (now i want it to crash but is running video fine for 10 min so far ;) )

(btw this happens for me outside the Netflix plugin but just when i play video trough online videos for instance)

    Hey userjan,
Do you have MP set to always be on top? If so, could you try to uncheck the box and see if that helps the stop issue?

Im also wondering if something with the screen saver changed in MP? If the movie is playing (in its own browser) for a while and MP see's no activity, it may try to minimize or kick on its screen saver. If you could, try to disable it as well to see if it could be a source of the issue.

    Thanks...

Initial results of my tests show that by setting MP to Not always be on top fixes it, but I have only done it a few times. It has not happened since I made that single change.
I will report back if it happens again.

I also noticed that another thing that was happening is not anymore. This was when I started a video it used to go to the desktop and then load the player. During these tests that no longer happens and the desktop is never seen.

Any chance the source code will be released soon? I'm working on a project and would like to see how one of the features works. Thanks!

Tips for people using a central database.

I was having a lot of random problems; not installing correctly, can't find webbrowser.exe, can't find netflix_remote.exe, que's were not working correctly, additional user's wouldn't show up. I couldn't believe I was having so many problems when it seemed most people didn't, then I got to thinking, I am using a centralized database so all of my installs can see movie info. Turns out that was my problem. I was able to fix all of my problems by doing the following:

    1. Configure mediportal to local database.
    2. Install plugin.
    3. Configure plugin including adding all users.
    4. Copy the netflixdatabase.db3 file to my central location.
    5. Re-configure mediaportal to use centralized database.

Wala everything seems to be working perfectly including adding movies to different users. I have MP installed on 4 computers, 2 dedicated HTPC's and 2 regular computers and all seem to be working with the central database with this method.

Good tip, thanks for the post... The only thing to be careful with is mixing 32bit & 64bit OS's.

For instance, I have two 64bit installs and two 32bit. I have the exact same as what you described here (with the central databases), but my initial install was on my 64bit so the winbrowser.exe is installed in the Program Files (x86) folder. Since the 32bit installs dont have that folder, I created a dummy folder "Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\plugins\NetFlix_Remote" and copied the contents from the installed NetFlix_Remote folder. After that everything will work fine.

Just tried to watch some instant movies and the browser started, but with a statement "no such movie".
It didn't just happen with one it happens with all of them.
I just checked my netflix instant from another computer and the movies are still listed as active.
I have never had this happen before.
