Periodic Stuttering after upgrade 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 (2 Viewers)

Another theory: The stuttering seems to be related to time - fine for an hour or so then it starts. I have tried RC3 (couldn't get it to work) 1.1 alpha - no joy, so reinstalled 1.0.2 and things worked fine on default settings then stuttering started. So how about heat - i have an unfanned (silent) en9600gt card. The HVR2200 is also a PCIe card and is no more than 3-4mm away from the graphic card. On testing the 9600 has so far got up 63 deg C - could heat buildup slowly begin to disrupt the TV card? Heat sink is next to back of HVR2200. I'm testing recording TV without streaming live at the same time - no detail on that yet. Live streaming took GC temp up from high 40s to 60s.

Heat indeed is pretty valid source for tuner related signal errors. You could try to remove the case as soon as the stuttering appears, maybe that lowers the temperature enough that the tuner will work again correctly.

Also when the stuttering occurs please check contents of TsReader & TsWriter logs. They should be showing up discontinuity errors when tuner doesn't work properly (dropped / missing packets, corrupted stream etc.).

I'll check the logs - I think I have eliminated heat as the problem - had it running at 44 deg C but stuttering still happening. Last night I played back a recording from earlier in the evening - Timeline this time is initially fine then occasional stutter, worsening stuttering through to blocking and large pixellation to the point that the image was static but audio continued. Stopped play then restarted stuttering contuinued then started to diminish though didn't completely disappear. I don't know the inner workings of MP at all but it seems like a buffer not clearing or something similar??? I am recording to a 750GB disk separate to the OS disk. I have about 100GB free. As far as i can see I have the latest drivers for vid card and TV card.

The only time I have trouble is the .ts stream - all others play fine. Stuttering still happens in WMP

You could prove the heat theory if you run the system with extra cooling, open chassis and maybe flipped cards. Another idea is to restart the system as soon as stuttering appears and check if it is then another hour before it returns (if yes, it is not a heat issue because system stays hot when you make a restart only). I think the heat theory is out - I've had the top off and running betyween 45 - 55 C and stuttering comes and goes. Some good periods with no stuttering at all with VC in low to mid 50s. Flipping the cards might not be a bad idea though as the TV card is next to the heatsink at the moment. Thanks

WHAT file format does the Hauppauge create with its own software? How about some other writer? There's an app called WatchHDTV that a guy wrote which creates both .mpg and a .ts version... you could try creating an error-free file from some other app to separate these issues. Do you have the HVR2200 setup as a hybrid card inside TV-Service? I don't know whether the HVR2200 has to be but doing so would eliminate using both tuner sections simultaneously. How about system level IRQs and what else is on them? You say you're using the latest VC and TV drivers -- checked the forums for bug reports? I'm using an older NVidia 16x.xx myself because of an issue w/nView. I'm not sure which logs (exactly) you should be posting, but I'll bet the experts on here would say to NOT post text excerpts! There's a MP debug routine (in your START / Programs menu) that will gather the files into a .zip file you can attach. Try that! You said this didn't occur on older MP releases, which one did you last use that was stable? THAT may be a big clue. Got any files created under that? The fact you say "Stuttering still happens in WMP" tells me the file you're playing has the problem. I'm not the expert, but if TV-Service is dumping the stream to the HDD directly from the broadcast them MP is not the culprit... something in the tuner, its reception or encoder. I read the 2200 is a multi-tuner card with DVB-T as well as Analog and digital tuners... how does that all play together? Which tuner is this stuttering occurring on? And is it only on recorded, LiveTV, or both? You may need to set this as a hybrid card! Oddly enough, I have the HVR-1600 and saw issues with its analog tuner - specifically its on-board encoding was stuttery under MP 1.0.2 but I can't say it was stable under 1.0.0 The last I tried using the analog section was under MP 0.2.3.0 but not any extensive testing as NTSC in the US is only distributed via cable systems now that the US adopted the ATSC broadcast standard.

I can answer a few of those: 2200 has 2 analog and 2 DVB-T tuners - I have them set up as two hybrid cards in MP. The last 'non-stutter' version I had was RC4 - I don't have a copy of the install file for that now so can't try it again.
I will give the original nVidia drivers a go too and see how that works. Some wider net trawling has shown far more issues related to the TV card than the graphics so I think the issue is most likely going to be with the TV card.

A quick update: Installed original TV card drivers, WinTV, detached USB wireless (some HVR2200 forum users noted an issue) and took local user control of the drive I use for timeshift/recording (WinTV could not access so I thought this might be an issue). Stuttering also occurred on WinTV. All this resulted in generally smooth playback. I have reinstated the wireless, removed WinTV with the result that, in general, TV playback has improved but there are still periods of stuttering.
I ran MP in a window while running the performance monitor. Periodically there is a substantial increase in disk activity with various media files being ?accessed - mostly mp3 files. It seems to be one of several services but have not been able to identify exactly which one. I have turned off indexing for this drive too.

I reinstalled the latest TV card drivers but this seemed to make things worse again so i have reverted to the original ones that came with the card.
