MediaPortal is a windows only program so you would probably have more luck asking about a Linux supported product at a Linux forum. I think sage TV is a Linux program so maybe you could get a good answer at there forum.

I just bought a usb Hauppauge PCTV HD Stick 801e SE for $39.99 im not sure if this was a good buy or not
I am thinking about returning it for one with better picture quality

also i was looking at these network tv tuners but they cost a little too much for me

    Hi Justinbeaird

Yeah, I think it should be generally okay, although I can't find any references to that product on Hauppauge's website.
I note it is supported on Linux (link).
If you want to try it with MP and analog cable you'll need a software encoding package to convert the analog cable signals to a digital format that the PC can manipulate. By the looks of the information here (link) there is a software encoder and drivers included with the Pinnacle software. I recommend that you go for digital signals if it is at all possible. Software encoders aren't always 100% reliable and may not give you the best picture quality.

Well, the log doesn't show any problems. I can see correctly tuned channels in the log. It seems to me that the tuner works fine. Can you copy the created ts file(located in your timeshift folder) somewhere else while in channel preview and try to play it in VLC or MPC-HC? PS: You can also try to make short record

Hi. I was probably being a bit fast and loose with my terminology. I meant "somewhere within the files that MP2 uses in its database". Anyway, I found a way to do this which was far from automated but relatively low effort. I found what looked like all the images (CD covers, DVD covers, backgrounds etc all lumped together in...

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC. TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.
