AW: Problems with dropping frames with EVR

grubi: I never found the root cause for the issue and it is still present for me.
If the dropouts start to happen and I stop Live TV and resume it, it is a little bit better but it comes back.
I also think that it has something to do with timeshift buffer or the way TsReader handles the TsStream...
In general I think that MediaPortal still is not as robust as other "TV applications" when it comes to Live TV.

I really tried a lot til now and nothing helped.
So far I could rule out the following:

    - OS (I tried XP and Vista)
    - Audio Codec (tried ffdshow, AC3Filter)
    - Video codec (tried PowerDVD and DScaler)

Yesterday I setup a new Installation (same hardware) with Win7 and switched the soundcard to a different type (someth. I did not try so far) and till now the problem did not reapear. It's quite to early to say if it's resolved but time will tell. Maybe the problem is caused by a drift between the different clocks.

    Cheers
    grubi.

Different clock speeds have been suspected by tourettes as well.
However, I am using my ATI graphics card for video and audio output via HDMI and I still don't understand, why the clocks can differ here...

I just upgraded to current SVN and experience the "frame dropped" problem now as well.
The MP version from about a year ago (SVN 22029) did not have any frame dropps with liveTV in SD.
Even after waching LiveTv for hours there were 0 frames dropped.
On HD however there where less than 50 dropped frames after 2 hours of watching HD.

About a year ago EVR renderer was not even dropping frames when they were late -> causes A/V sync to drift which is wrong behavior. Also current public SVn release has broken dshowhelper.dll that causes lot of frames to be dropped on some HW environment. There is a patched dll available in the SVN thread that you should test to see if the next SVN will work better for you.

This seems all messed up now. After I submitted the patch to 2608 which was fixed in svn 24787 everything was great. The latest changes seemed to have messed things up good, and I cannot get smooth playback no matter what I do. I'm running a build I made from the latest svn tree.

I see 2 bugs so far it looks like.
1: windows refresh rate set to 23hz, play 23.976hz movie, get stutters. ! display reports windows refresh rate of 23, lots of dropped frames.
2: automatic refresh rate changer changes refresh rate from 60 to 23.976, ! menu still reports 60hz, dropped frames all over.

I also tried both directshow helpers that were in the latest SVN thread, but the stutter was still there.

edit: I copied my source tree and revered the copy to 24892. I took this dshowhelper and dropped it in the latest build and everything plays smooth again.

    edit2: 24894 causes the stutter.

did you try dshowhelper.dll from SVNs > 24949?

I tried a build from the very latest SVN(built from source) as well as both dshowhelpers that you posted in the SVN thread.

Too bad, as it seems that the current one is working for the majority of people and the one what is working for you isn't. Not sure what we could do. One thing is to rewrite the EVR renderer to use completely different way of scheduling and presenting but it wont happen until MPII.

If you can build the dshowhelper.dll from the sources please try to isolate the single change that causes the issue for your HW (between the working one and current SVN revision).

I'm not running anything crazy here. I'm sure other people will have this issue as well. Worst case I'll just use my own renderer.

Something to note, when refreshrate changer changed to 23.976, it still said windows rate 60hz in the ! display.

I'll see what I can find this weekend going through that revision. I just finished building some monster subs that have been taking a lot of my time, so now that they're done, I can put some attention towards this.
