Personally, I would never build a combination of two things (receiver/HTPC) as it's messy to fix if one of them breaks. If the receiver breaks, then you can hook the HTPC up to your TV and have a *working* setup while you get it fixed. If you need to fix the HTPC, you can use a BluRay-player (especially if you use a NAS with the setup).
Better to build a nice HTPC case with multiple mounting options for what type of mother board is hot on the current market, and include options for what's new/upcoming but not yet feasible (too expensive, not stable enough) so when the future's hardware can deliver the specs and reliability wanted by the builder, it's a drop-in upgrade to this hardware.
More and more people move to network based storage (NAS or just an external drive hooked up to the router), so I would focus on having a nice little client with an SSD drive only.
It´s exactly my target, as you can see in earlyer posts. You can put any mini ITX case in it, up to 32GB RAM and two 2,5" HDD fro example classic for movies and small SSD.[DOUBLEPOST=1390566812][/DOUBLEPOST]Wow 7th place in forum by replies and about 200 visitors per day just in 5 days running! So I changed HDD position. I used 20mm standoffs, so the thickest hard drives will still have 5mm space to motherboard (Silver plate on hard drives is MB )
