Have had a quick look at the new quality settings tab today (Thank you devs).

Not a very thorough test though but findings so far....
The cards in the test mascine is PVR150 & PVR500. OS was Vista SP1.
After initial click on test button for each card settings is enabled.

Bumped both recording and playback selections up to high.
Did a quick recording and seems that we now reaches 8500Kb/s for video and 384Kb/s for audio.
Very nice, and no stuttering from that setting so far.

As the usual ungratefull sob..... Perhaps we could have a "super high quality" setting :)

Will look closer at the functions soon.

Thanks for the improvement in control. Very nice being able to customize settings.

    Great work people.

I have a Hauppauge PVR350. The specs says it has a hardware encoder/decoder but the new Quality Control says it doesn't support it.

l'am already using the latest driver driver for Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Encoder/Decoder, wich is V1.18.21.23257.

I have the same problem here with PVR350, same driver version and Vista SP1.

What do the Check button actually do? Perhaps we could tweak it to allow the PVR350 as well?

    Hi all,
the new quality control mechanism also works with software encoders.
This new version uses a generic interface for controlling the quality. The "check" button builds therefore the graph of the card and checks if the encoder has implemented this generic interface. Many software encoders have implemented this interface too and all Hauppauge hardware encoder should have it implemented.

The TV-Server always asks the encoder for its minimum and maximum bitrate. The setting "high" means that the TV-Server will set the bitrate to its maximum value. So a "Ultra high" setting isn't possible. :sorry:

If you have problems with the new quality control than please post a log. Otherwise we can only guess what happens on your system.

BTW: The problem with stuttering at high bitrates isn't fixed yet.

I saw it tuning into channel 4, but there is nothing on this channel here, so no signal.
When i look into the tuner with GraphEdit its defaulted to channel 4.
Could the absence of a signal lead to the 'no support' message?

This part of the log doesn't contain the most important lines. You should search for something like:
    analog: Check quality control
and the following lines. The check for quality control is only done when the graph is built.
But you should attach a complete log, because there could be some hints in the log that can help us to find the reason.

I couldn't find those lines at a quick look.
MP is recording now, when its finished i will make a complete log package.

    Misterd,

I have created the log zip for you.
    It contains the following steps:
    - Reboot the system
    - Did the TVSetup analog card quality control check
    - Started MPTestTool -auto to create the attached log zip.
    - exit MP

Hope you can find something for us.

    Hi,
unfortunately the drivers/filter of your card doesn't implement the IVideoEncoder interface, which we are using for the new quality control. But I'm going to add support for an additional interface when I get the IVideoEncoder fully integrated. Hopefully your filter will support this one. Than we will hopefully also be able to set the quality for audio.

    MisterD,

Its pity that the PVR350 doesn't has the implementation of the IVideoEncoder interface.
    Thanks for the investigation.

hi pe2rm, the original hauppauge quality control should still be there and it should fall back to it if Ivideoencoder fails. I'll see if I can fix this
