I think it should be included by default. It is a useful feature both daily and extended. I also agree with the use of plugins, with a basic one included by default.

What I wish could be done, is system where the plugins all push information into the same skin file. At least for the home screen; so that if you install a more advanced weather plugin, there would be no need to edit the Basic Home skin file. In others words, data from the selected weather plugin is automatically (automagically) shown on the home screen. The plugins can have their own skin files for other options.

Just a wish. After all, I see a lot of Santas around.;)

I voted yes to having weather as core MP feature.

I think it only needs the following information
Weather condition / Current Temp / Max Temp / Min Temp - for Today + 4 days
I don't need geoclock, sattelite images, weather images.
    Simple is better

With all the tings on our Dev's plates and how few Devs we have.... a Weather Plugin as part of the core MP make little to no sense to me. I would say about 1/10 of MP users give a shot about a Weather plugin, while 9/10 users use MP-TVS. Why isn't MP-TVS been considered as core plugin? I know they are completely different and I know all the reasons, but my point is still made. Number of ppl using something does not negate if it should be part of the core MP. Number of ppl using or wanting something only speaks to the necessity of the plugin, but not if it should be a part of the core.

To decide if something should be part of the core, imo what you should ask yourself is this:

Can we afford the development resources on a plugin that most users find a hard time even linking "Media" and "Weather" together in the first place. I am not only talking about the dev resources now, but later too when we move on to 1.3.1 or 1.4, etc.

Its the weather, people. Need to now if it is going to rain? Look outside.

(Then again, I say this living in Texas, where we walk around constantly prepared for almost any weather. They say if you don't like the weather in Texas, wait five minutes.... it will change.)

    Okay, off my soapbox =)

Is it OK I voted? Or is it only for 'newcomers'? :p

Is there anyone closer to India than me that will beat him senseless for me? Really.... I offer good money =)

**Disclaimer: The above joke is not to be taken seriously. The joker (get it? I called myself "the joker") does not actually intend to pay for any damages done to the jokee's person or property. If any idiot so wishes to do this you will be taking it upon your own free (and very awesome, but more importantly,"free") will.

Isn't micro taking full responsibility, so does this still add to developers plate?
also doing it the way that micro proposed adds increased usability + simplicity for user configuration/setup. Weather can be implemented with zero setup by user, same can not be said for mp tv series/moving pictures.

I like having the "weather outlook" feature, it doesn't matter to me whether it is core or plugin. But it would be easier to have an import tag for that info built into the BasicHome.xml rather than having to modify BasicHome to include it. I don't know if having a standardized form for the information from whichever installed weather plugin would work for everyone (do some people have more than one weather plugin installed?)

I'm quite happy with the WorldWeather plugin and keeping weather as a plugin keeps the MP core clean, so less chance for unexpected problems. To me it looks like a smarter option to make the WorldWeather plugin part of the standard MP install.

The argument against including world weather plugin in its current form is that it has two many options, and the first time MP user finds MP Config too complicated with too many options as it is.

I liked the old weather feature and remember the panic when it quit working. it was quite accurate where i live. I would like to see it included in the core package again and be easy to set up like the old one was. i have gotten use to having a webpage based radar image now and it would be nice if that could be an OPTION like it was before with the new core weather feature if it is added back to the core of MP.
