SAF didnt use FFDshow video decoder for DXVA compatible videos (h.264 and VC-1), MPC is used instead.

Well, tell me then... how can i combine coreavc with saf ?
What do i have to change in the mpc-codec?
If i'm correct mpc is not installed, only the codec?

Install Core after SAF install, setup MP to use CoreAVC - that should be enought.

OK, thanks. So i have only one thing to do, and that's:
mediaportal configuration: H.264 video decoder : CoreAVC Video Decoder
Easier then i thought. (I've always thought it had something to do with ffdshow settings, but i'm wrong)
Maybe a tip to add this solution for coreavc into the first post?

You might want to consider an Nvidia card for HTPC use, particularly if you want DXVA acceleration of above blu-ray spec H264 files or trouble-free HDTV playback.

I have ATI 4550 in my HTPC. It is true ATI have limit for h.264 - it is FullHD profile 5.1 and 6 or more ref. frames (nVidia have the same limit on XP, no limit on Vista/Win7).
This is hardware limitation. But i do not have any other problems with this card at all, no freezes, corupted image, crash, BSOD, no problems after wakeup, etc...
I installed on my HTPC 3D game Lego Indiana Jones few weeks ago and i was really surprised how fast this game from 2008 runs in 1280*720 on ATI 4550...

BTW, i think nVidia have similar card like ATI 4550 - it is nVidia GT 210, it is LowProfile, but i am not sure if there is passive cooling LP version available too.

yeah, it's likely that some of the problems mentioned in those links have been fixed with newer drivers, it's mainly the lack of support for L5.1 compared to Nvidia that bothers some people. I think I saw the GT220 mentioned as a possible Nvida alternative. Didn't realise Nvidia cards still had L5.1 limitations in XP. I wonder if Nvidia does any better with WMV3 acceleration too, as my ATI cards don't do that at all.
I feel it's best to choose the card that's most suitable and fit an Accelero S1rev2 heatsink (and fan if necessary) to it, for about £15. Not all cards are compatible with the Accelero, so you need to check but there are other (more expensive) heatsinks available if not.

FYI - only tested a few files so far, but DXVA seems to be working with 720p H.264 files on the G41 Express chipset
