I myself gave up on using the full SAF-package by the way. No offence intended, it's a great package but it doesn't seem to like my setup: 780G, Vista 32-bit, clean install with only Haali and SAF > wouldn't play half the MKV's. Also I can't use MPC-HC for HD LiveTV which is a problem for me (using HD LiveTV), so I'd need another HD-codec anyway. Actually I'm also having a problem with PDVD8 HD-codec so I'm using CoreAVC for HD at the moment. Not that great, but it's a HTPC for in the living room and I took it away for a few days to convert to Mediaportal-1.0 Final and it needs to be up and running again in a day, so I'll try it again in a few months.. :(

More than likely the reason why half of the files won't play is poor encoding. You won't get dxva on files that aren't encoded properly. With the recent downloaded mkv files I've been grabbing, it's about 4 out of 5 now that I need to reencode. I followed hoborgs advice and use xvid4psp. works great but takes time. It's worth it for me though, with a p4 system, I need dxva to play 1080p files.

I think you should go back to the 8.5 drivers right, especially if you're having bsod issues.

I also have the Gigabyte 780G-board and I have always had troubles setting the shared memory to 512 megabytes; It is a lot better with the 8.12 drivers but still sometimes I get BSOD errors. With 256 MB set in the bios the BSOD errors are gone.

Since I want to have subs with MKV / HD films, I use COREavc instead of the MPC HD filter... since subs break DXVA I think it is best to use the best software, non DXVA, filter there is. I had to upgrade my processor though...

SAF is for people trying to get DXVA working. If that's not your goal than SAF isn't for you. You should stick with CoreAVC or some other software decoder. Although talking about other software isn't very relevant to this thread... I will tell you that of all the software I tried, coreavc worked the best and is well worth the money.

Thanks for your job! Very good set of codecs, anything superfluous!
I wish to tell that for me are installed driver ATI 8.12 and, I yet have no problems, for example BSOD.
However, I have problems with DVD navigation on disks by which I did itself. I am forced to use Cybelink Navigator, MPEG2 Decoder and Audio Decoder from PowerDVD 7.3 for normal playback and navigation on these disks.

Just an update on my situation, I nuked my entire MP install, uninstalled and cleaned all my video card drivers and codecs, then re-installed MP 1.00. Works wonderfully - no audio sync problems for both virgin .m2ts files and mkvs with flac audio. Hardware video acceleration is also working. Haven't tried any subs yet so I'll let you know if those work.

    AMD 780G chipset, Catalyst 8.12 drivers, Vista 32-bit, saf v3.14, MP v1.00, Moving Pictures 0.6.2, TVSeries 2.0.3279.

Excellent! I actually grabbed a free beta copy of acronis 2009 from slickdeals.net, and used that to do system backups at every step of the installation. That way I can go back to a core install of winxp with all the updates, then with drivers, SAF, MP, etc. works great. It sure saves a ton of time. Now that a new version of MP is out, I'll revert back to the core winxp install, install the newest SAF and MP and be good to go!

thx hoborg for this nice codecpack!

Everything works fine out of the box.

beside watching 1080p content with subtitles (this breaks DVXA i know) ends up with 100% CPU-Load and heavy stutter. my htpc is running a BE-2400 Athlon
sadly my LCD isnt 24p compatible so i have to use reclock to get a smooth moving picture.

is there a solution in sight for getting subtitles AND DVXA to work?
otherwise I would have to upgrade my cpu. another idea would be to buy a soundcard which is capable to do encoding of the audiostream by hardware. (is there such a card available?)

    What went wrong?

    Hello to the group,

I spent 2 days cleaning my htpc and installing MP 1.0. (from 0.2.2!!!, doing a good job for nearly a year). 1.5 days for cleaning and 0.5 days for installation.
The installation procedure (my first time use of the TV server!) is very good and extremely simple. Great work!!!

I followed exactly Hoborg's guide (it was a nightmare having my ffdshow uninstalled, because the directshow filters were not correct deregistered, don't know why). Did everything mentioned, except the CLVsd.ax is version 8, but not the very latest release as saf3.15 reported. It is the one, that comes with Terratec Home Cinema software (latest version), which is working well on my son's pc with DXVA enabled (Win XP, P805d, 2.6 GHz, ATI X600, ATI 8.10???, Terratec DVBS USB).

Used ATI driver: 8.5., Haali Media Splitter, saf 3.15, MP 1.0.

The first look on the new MP shows again, that the developers have done a GREAT JOB!!! Channel switching is faster than in ver. 0.2.2

    2 main issues:

When switching to Cybelink codec, screen is still dark, sound ok. As PowerDVD is no longer installed, how to disable DXVA in MP 1.0 ???
GraphEdit showed, that the Cyberlink codec is used.

When switching back from a HD channel (dark screen) the SD channel also is dark, both have sound. I have to stop live TV in order to get sd channels working again.

    2 minor issues:

I exported my channel list in order to configure WEBEPG but the log reports an error while reading the channel list. I did it as described in "the dummies guide to WebEPG". When selecting "MediaPortal" in the combobox nothing happens, selecting "TVserver" the error occurs. It seems a xsd, dtd or so is missing to read the channel list correctly.

MP client hangs after direct start of live tv. When first stepping into "programs", waiting for the list to occur and then selecting a channel everything works fine.

WMP 11 is playing dvr-ms but some tests are still outstanding to have more information.

    Please, can anyone help?

Also, I need to know which codecs are really missing? (ffdshow, I think, for automatically switching to AC3, having a Yamaha 5.1 sytem connected via SPDIF coax)

Regards, and a happy new year to everyone in the group
