Hey Hoborg, I grabbed a movie that has the standard mpeg video but the audio is dts. It also includes subtitles. I tried to use mkvmerge to strip out the subs but it dies after about 20 seconds. It appears that the new file is correct but it won't do the whole movie. Any ideas? I tried turning off the subs, telling directvobsub to not load, etc. but it still loads a null renderer and dxva doesn't work. do I need to reencode the file?

Please, split your video to 1-2MB and place it here as attachement. I am on slow shared line, and have no chance to dl something from rapid.

Okay so I assume you ment you to quote me rather than weedenbc here (because I uploaded to Rapidshare), so here is a _very_ (few seconds) short .mkv file. Good luck. Please note there is no sound in it (or barely any sound) because it's the beginning of the movie.

The file works perfect for me. Opening it in MPC-HC, with MPA and MPC-video set as preferred. Even plays with DXVA! The graph looks just like it should according to hoborgs info on the first page.

Hello.
Again - post a small example here.

No problem here too.
The only thing i see wrong is container. AVI is not fully compatible to use H264 video. Try to convert your file to MKV by MKVMerge.

Sorry, here's a sample. When I work with the original it dies in mkvmerge after like 22 seconds. bizarre.

Oops I really forgot to say this, I feel so stupid now: It was a .mkv file, but because I couldn't upload MKV's here I simply renamed it to .avi for the uploading. Forgot to say that though, but it seems that it still worked. Amusing. However, if any of you play it renamed to a .mkv, will it still play within Mediaportal itself? If so, it's probably still something related to the system I'm testing on. I'll be doing a fresh install when MP1.0Final comes out so hopefully it'll work then.

Maybe your video file is damaged somehow (damaged download)
I will try your example at home (no DXVA compatible hardware here).

I'd also like to mention that dxva is working with catalyst 8.12 and SAF 3.14. For anyone else looking to upgrade from 8.5. I'm using a pci express ati radeon hd 3450.

Are you sure about 8.12? Did you try video from here? https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/1-0-rc3-svn-builds-288/vc-1-playback-fullscreen-47468/index2.html

This video is not DXVA compatible.
