The ffmpeg decoder in MPC should still be able to decode 1080p fine- I have exact same processor and motherboard as you and I get only 20-40% (depending on bitrate) usage for 1080p without using DXVA.Just tried encode one of the Lost-episodes that just showed black picture and sound with xvid4psp but it´s still not working :/
I don´t really know what to do next. If I don´t find a solution I guess I will have to wait and by a E8400 or something later that is possible of decoding 1080p itself. And for now just stay with 720p material.
This plays with DXVA in MPC-HC (898) but it seems jerky so maybe dropping frames. It plays fine using ffdshow with about 32% usage.

In order to know why the video is black you really need to check your file while it's playing using graphstudio. It could be any number of things preventing the video from accelerating. Let us know! we know it's not the file specifically now.
Hm. Tried now and your actually right. I can play the killer_sample.mkv - movie (in 1080p) using only MPC internal codecs (with ffdshow it´s getting really slow and choppy). However my CPU usage is still about 70-90%, guess this is because this clip has a much higher bitrate then anything else today. It´s for testing I guess.
Tried playing a regular 1080p trailer (from apple) in .mov in MPC HC and it played really smooth with, as you said, CPU usage on about 30-50%. I thought everything was fine, so I downloaded the stand alone MPC video filter (SourceForge.net: Files), placed in System32, typed regsvr32 MPCVideoDec.ax and it installed nicley and showed up in MediaPortal.
But when playing the same file as I did in MPC HC in MediaPortal with the MPC-codec chosen for h.264-material the picture gets really choppy and jumpy, like it plays nicely for a few frames then skips a few frames and so on. Not watchable :/
Did I do something wrong installing the codec?

OK, i manage to make it "work".
You need to enable MTV music videos + MTV player in MP configuration, and install Adobe Flash player under IE (not under Firefox).
Well, i only get MTV message "copyrights restrict us from playing this video outside the US", so it is absolutely usseles for me.
So it have nothing to do with SAF (by other words, you don't need to disable SAF FLV splitter to make it work).

CPU usage 30-70% means DXVA is not in use.
Can be more reasons. I suggest to you to:
-MPC-HC filter are not in use, or DXVA are disabled (SAF automaticly enable it)
-install SAF - SAF configure all settings automatickly
-try to update your MB BIOS to latest version
-assign max memory to your iGPU in BIOS (this is important!)
-make sure DirectVobSub is not loaded
-try catalyst 8.5

Can you upload/provide a link to the killer file? As I have the same processor and motherboard it would be useful for me to test to compare.
You realise the MPC decoder is part of SAF right? The one at sourceforge is the stable but now outdated version of MPC- SAF uses a new version. Unregister the old 604 MPCVideoDec (and any other old MPC filters) either by running regsvr32 or use radlight filter manager. Then install SAF (and haali splitter if you don't have it already).
I´m using Norton Ghost right now to restore the computer to a clean XP install, will try everything tomorrow and hopefully it´ll work. Will of course report the progress!
