Hello,

after having nearly all problems solved or an answer is given, I found one new problem:

The checkbox "Navigator" in MP config-> DVD -> DVD codecs is empty. What is missing?
Playing DVD's in WMP 11 is not possible too, an error message occurs.

I only did follow Hoborg's instructions and installed nothing else.

Which free codec should I use for x264? Any ideas?

Here's the error.log

Well, if you have no DVD Navigator as option, your system seems to be damaged, becouse DVD navigator is part of OS.

Hello Hoborg,

problem fixed, had to register qdvd.dll with Radlight. It was deregistered while cleaning the system.
Have read in the MSDN , that there is an update of this in SP3 for XP.

Regards, and a happy new year to everone :)

Hi Hoborg,

I did a reinstall of your codec suit. Now it does work. So I probably did something wrong the first time. I have all the checkboxes ticked now in the MPC codec screen and all is OK now.

One question though. I have powerdvd 8 installed. I dont want to uninsall it, because I use it sometimes. But If I want to use the correct codec which you also use (CLVsd.ax), what is this codecs name in mediaportal. I can choose between:
-Cyberlink Video/SP BD-HD Decoder (PDVD8)
-Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8)
-Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder(HomeNetwork)

Thank you Hoborg :) Happy Wishes to Everyone!!

Hello again,

Finally I could install 8.5 drivers with my ATI HD 4850, with the original CD that come with my graphic card. After that I can see an "ATI Mpeg Video Decoder" option in MP for TV, Movies and DVD. I tought this code will use DxVA but after some test I checked it use about 20% of CPU. Then this "ATI Mpeg Video Decoder" doesn't use DxVA, is that correct?

Thank you mates!

I am afraid thats correct. I have the same results. If I play 720P with DXVA enabled, I use about 1-2%cpu. With ATI decoder something about 18-24% (with a 2.1hz X2)

I have an ATI HD3450 with driver 8.53.0. I got it because the original GeForce 6600 in my Scaleo E had problems with recovery from hibernate.
I always assumed that "ATI Mpeg Video Decoder" would use the card's abilities more efficiently than anything else.
Should I understand from your posts above that this is not the case? I hate to go through all of the codec uninstallling, installing and tweaking described in this thread, but I do see occasional problems with video hanging for a fraction of a second.

    Hi rsbrux,

I thought the same, but I checked "ATI Mpeg Video Decoder" used more than 20% of my CPU instead of less than 5% with MPC HC codecs, it's incredible but it's true. I can not understand why ATI or NVIDIA don't give us an easy way to use their card features for video acceleration. Many people buy this cards and don't know the right way to use them, at least they should advice in the publicity this card accelerate video ONLY using the right codecs, look in that web or something :-(

    Happy 2009 everybody ;-) PEACE

Hi. A simple question: If I install these codecs, will I have any problem watching dual avi files with 2 or more audios and external subtitle files?
    Thanks

The files will play but you won't get DXVA with any files while external subtitles are loaded. I haven't had any problems switching audio tracks.
