Updating codecs

Hello Hoborg,

correct update procedure looks as follows?

1. Call saf.exe to deinstall saf.

2. Uninstall Matroska (Haali Media Splitter)

3. Install new Version of Matroska, configured as shown

4. Install new Version of saf (having clsvd.ax in c:\)

No need to do anything in or with MP?
Or will there be an easier way?
Is it still useful installing FFDShow?
Any free H.264 codec for Live TV, you would prefer?

Terratec sells a HD - package for their TV software (10,- Euro). Codecs seem to be included (maybe Cyberlink)? Has anyone some information?

saf is working fine :) DXVA for mpeg also (XP sp3, ATI 8.5).

Regards

I've had a few issues with this procedure, I find it best to do a reboot after you uninstall everything. Not sure if it was just my setup, but you get some messages from haali stating "files couldn't be removed...", and that worried me. Rebooting before the install seems to help ensure everything goes as it should.

My advice. If you have a working sisytem. Before you fiddle with it (codecs in general), make a backup or image. The times I had to reinstall from scratch because I didnt ... sigh.. :)

I suppose H.264 should work, but I dont know for sure. I dont use it for that.

    Hello.
No need to uninstall saf and install new version, "update" is sufficien.
Setup MP filters acording screenshots from first page of this thread.

If DXVA is working, you did it just fine :)

I have no Live HD TV (just old analog), so i newer tryed it...

I have a hauppauge 2250 and was able to use it in MP with SAF installed and my cpu was under 5%, even while recording. I know both my tuner and ati card support acceleration, I'm not sure which was doing the job, but it worked for me.

    Hi

How do you do that? Hoborg mentioned in the first post that there is no solution for hdtv yet, becouse there is some conflict between mpc codecs and .ts files.

Actually I also had to install another AVC codec to watch hdtv, becouse of this problem.
    Or is it solved already?

I think it has to do with the hauppauge having onboard accelerators, but I'm not sure. I just reinstalled xp, but I'll test it again soon and let you know.

I have bad video quality when playing DVD's and MPEG video.
Yes, it is becouse SAF included MPEG decoder is not perfect, but it is free.
If you want better video quality, you need to install some comercial MPEG decoder (like PowerDVD, nVidia
    PureVideo.Decoder, etc)

Sorry if this is obvious but when you say install some commercial MPEG decoder is that the same as using the CLVsd.ax file or are you advising to buy and install the full powerdvd player or purevideo?
