@ Ezaum: I have the same issue you mentioned before: Stuttering 720p playback, 1080p works fine though. I'm using Ati Catalyst 9.3.
Did you try 9.4?

2: Tearing. I have the 9.1 catalyst, and in MPC-HC I didn't have tearing (had with 8.12). In Mediaportal I noticed lots of tearing though. So I enabled Vsync in the catalyst controlcenter, and the problem was much less, but still noticeble. Then I enabled Aero and (it might be coincedence) I didn't notice tearing anymore, but movement just seems different. Like it's on the edge of tearing, but just not enough to call it that. Also, with Aero enabled I noticed that sometimes the screen freezes for 1 second..

I hope someone can help me :)

vista solution for no tearing= Aero + EVR + vsync always on in CCC. I had bad tearing problems, these 3 together = no tearing, ever, any content (with catalyst 8.12). This ought to be in an FAQ somewhere, it is mentioned on other threads.

questions of my own:

I have been using cyberlink pdvd8 h.264 codec, I have been very happy with the PQ, and I get good h/w accell. 99.9% of my h.264 content is broadcast tv (bbchd) so I don't care too much about downloaded mkvs or whatnot.
yesterday, Pdvd upgraded in response to a new blu-ray I got. The blu-ray plays, but I now have no h.264 codec. It seems this is possibly a known problem with pdvd8 now, they have removed h.264 directshow support from their codec, this is discussed in the cyberlink forums.

what h.264 codec can I use, that will give me h/w accell still? I thought I had all this cracked, very nice stable MP setup for 2 months now, then pdvd goes and upgrades and ruins it. I must have cyberlink pdvd installed, because I need a blu-ray player. So I nervous about the "pdvd is a conflicting app" story with the SAF pack. Is it possible to just extract and install the h.264 codec and manually regsrvr32 it from the SAF pack?

Yeah it works, but in MPC-HC I could set the EVR buffer. Seems I have problems with some media where the media stops for 0.5 seconds sometimes, and goes on. I also noticed some speed changes, which is even worse. It is kinda annoying. I noticed it in some 720P content, and in 1080P.

I think I can fix it by setting that EVR buffer to 3 (like I had in MPC-HC). Anyway this is possible? I don't find this anywhere in the configtool, also, not in the properties of the codec. So it might be some XML trick I think. It is very important for many systems (like mine).

A quick question when it comes to subtitles, will they destroy DXVA even when they're not selected? That is, if have a mkv with subtitles, and the nessecary filters are installed and enbled, but I haven't chosen one inside the player?

Mr. TESCO, you need to disable MKV subtitles in SAF installation - there are option for it, or disable them in Haali configuration (autoload VSfilter).

This will disable subtitles completly, and DXVA will be working.

Ok, so as long as the computer is set up for subtitles even when they're not displayed the movie will not use DXVA then, thank you :)

I was thinking about my-speedup-speed down and 0.5seconds hang problem. Is it possible that somehow the ATI driver clocks the card up/down while playing a movie instead of giving maximum performance when media is active?
Also, it might be my imagination, but after I used the OSD, the rest of the movie gives me this problems, like the OSD triggers the speed issue. Is this also possible?

I meant the Cyberlink AVC/h.264 decoder:D - I think they have modified the latest version of the PDVD8 and PDVD9 h.264 decoder so you can't use it in anything else other than PowerDVD.

This not true,, at least it is working for me in MP. you just need some other dll to copy from original installation:

Hi benoe,
would you possibly be able to be completely specific about what is needed where/how ?:D

I have never needed to install SAF, I have been happy with pdvd8's h.264 codec for 3 months now. I just upgraded pdvd8 to latest build (so that it would play a new blu-ray), and now my h.264 codec has gone from mediaportal :(. Is it possible to extract the old build's h.264 cocec so that mediaportal can use it, whilst still keeping the new build of pdvd8 for bluray use ?

thanks
Ian

I have PowerDVD9, and didn't see the H.264 codec as well. Since I have MPA video decoder from this patch, I don't care that much, but it's nice to try it out, it might be even better..
