Re: SAF v4.00beta (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1).

Hello Hoborg!
I can't play any XVID videos in MP, but it perfectly played in MPCHC
Until I have edited my registry from default settings after unlocked SAF install
from
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Filters\MPC Video Decoder]
"ActiveCodecs"=dword:00001803

to

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Filters\MPC Video Decoder]
"ActiveCodecs"=dword:00003fff

And its great - all my XVID videos are start playing!
So, can you describe to me these settings...???

You redirect video decoding from FFDshow to MPC video decoder side.
Can you provide small video sample to test?
BTW, you should run WinXP autoupdater, you VMR9 is outdated.

Understand that.:D
No need to upload a video sample here - any of avi's XVID or DIVX videos does'nt played - Now my video decoding is HW accelerated by MPC video decoder - I don't need to install any of XVID-DIVX decoders.
I Know, my quartz.dll is outdated - I've already downloaded (KB971633) patch
:D

Wow, I'm jealous. HW accel of Xvid/DivX. What graphics card have you got, 'cos my ATI HD3200 doesn't HW accel avi's with MPC decoder at all.

None GPU will accelerate xvid/divx by DXVA, only h.264,VC-1 and MPEG-2 are supported :)

I installed latest SAF beta on clean system
None of other codecs.
When i played XVID 720p film with ffdshow on my asrock ion 330 - picture is stuttering and fps about 5-15
When i played XVID 720p film with MPC decoder - none problems at all - CPU load is about 15-40%

And a small question to hoborg: How properly remove ffdshow audio/video decoders from my system?
I don't need it - i use AC3 filter for audio passtrough

Are you sure it was xvid? Didnt you enable any FFDShow postprocessing?

BTW, i just tested CPU usage here on Intel Atom 330, when playing HD XVID sample CPU usage was ~15% with both FFDShow and MPC video decoder. Both are using similar decoding method.

Uninstall SAF :)
AC3 filter is not recomended, it will fail to play AC3+ audio.

I know, that AC3filter does not support thats new HDaudio formats
I don't have a reciever with Dolby True HD support and hdmi inputs....
I have only coaxial/optical spdif
And therefore i use AC3filter

Re: SAF v4.00beta (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1).

@ Hoborg,

-AC3Filter doesnt pass through Dolby True HD
-FFDshow can pass through dolby true hd.
But is there also a difference where AC3filter can not handle it? If I were to play the Dolby True HD sample, does AC3filter passthrough normal DTS/DD instead? Or is there no sound at all in that case?
Thanks in advance.

@ Androsss
If you have a perfect working system, with AC3filter and you have no issue at all. Than do not change it!! "Dont fix it if it aint broken."
But if you experience issues, like no video/audio of online media, like no TrueHD audio being passed through, etc. You can give SAF a try. :) I know out of my own experience SAF is a good and clean / lean codec compilation (as opposed to megacodec packs which might work). SAF doesnt clutter the system. SAF can be uninstalled without a trace. And as a bonus the support from Hoborg is exelent. (thanks).
