Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi Hoborg,

I just installed Cat 10.7. No problems with it, dont worry. :)
But in the release notes it is stated that VLC now is capable of using ATI hardware acceleration (witn 4xxx/5xxx cards).
So I was just thinking, would it be possible to extract all the usefull VLC codecs/filters/splitters and use it with MediaPorta? This is a benifit because VLC is free and open source. It can decode just about anything from SD to HD
I did a search, and it seams possible. Have a look at this google hit if you are interessted.

Im just wondering what you think about this. Usefull for video/dvd and/or TV?

CAN'T PLAY, VIDEO CODEC AVC. How can i setup? Why not working with W7? The MPC-HC play all movies.

You enabled passthrough?

You didnt wrote the most important thing - does your video play in graphstudio?

Hi!

I did enabled the passthrough. And the graphstudio play the video. The processor 15-20%.

Then it is easy.
If it is working in graphstudio, then your codec setup is OK.

Hi.
No.
VLC is not directshow based player.

Basically true, but...

The VLC-to-DirectShow Connection
Because VLC is open source and it implements a high quality, flexible and reliable multiplexer, Sensoray chose it as the foundation for a DirectShow multiplexer filter. VLC, however, is an application program, which is to say that it is not a DirectShow filter.

VLC is designed to work in conjunction with plug-ins and modules. For example, video streams enter VLC through an access module. Ironically, VLC has a DirectShow access module, but this module can’t be used to insert VLC into a filter graph as a separate filter. Also, VLC provides access to DirectShow drivers, but such drivers typically support only uncompressed capture cards.

In order to work around these issues and make it possible for VLC’s multiplexer to be used with DirectShow, Sensoray developed the Sensoray VLC Bridge, a DirectShow filter that incorporates the VLC libraries. This filter serves as a bridge from DirectShow to VLC, thus exposing VLC’s multiplexer functionality in the form of a DirectShow filter. It is a very useful standalone filter and, in the spirit of the open source movement (and as required by GPL), Sensoray provides all source code for the filter on its website.

But also, the downside :( :

What formats does this filter support? Can I do MPEG4?
Currently, this filter supports MPEG1 and MPEG2 video streams with PCM or MPEG1Layer2 audio streams. It does not support audio elementary stream(AES) or audio by itself. This filter does not support MPEG4 as is. Sensoray uses the standard Microsoft AVI multiplexer for MPEG4 (MP4S) multiplexing.

See the source if you want to read it. Open Source VLC to Directshow Bridge
There seem to be more people who have tried things like this. There are some interesting hits on google about this.

Honestly, i didnt see any reason for this...

95% of all video players/decoders (including VLC, MPC-HC, FFDshow, XBMC, etc...) are based on the same FFMpeg (libavcodec).

So why to use VLC if FFDshow will do the same (or more)?

Oh its reassuring! But what is a problem? :sorry:

No idea, must be something in your MePo setup.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hello,

I got a strange problem that sometimes almost kills my ears. If I select 5 channel in FFDShow audio and some 5.1 material is played it bursts out loud as hell, since somehow that level of sound is not the same then the one for stereo sound. All I can do then is stop playing or go and turn down the sound by hand. No matter what I do in medaiportal (quiet down, or hit mute) does what it should. I can control sound normal as long as it is stereo. The same problem if I select "upmix stereo to 5.1" in music section. Does anyone know what my problem is?
